You never know the true meaning of hell

until men in white suits

force you into a rocking chair

and tell you to stay there.

They left me nothing

but blank wallpaper

to stare at

all day long.

But I wasn’t the only one with this fate.

Oh, I was just a brick in the wall.

Everywhere I looked, there were

living stone statues,

hollow cases of people

who’d lost their minds so, so

long ago, being forced

to do everything but

anything.

I didn’t bother asking the doctors

if we had anything to do,

because I already knew that we

didn’t

We weren’t people to them;

we were just zoo animals.

All we needed was food, water,

and a cage.
