“Once upon a time
there was a perfect little girl
with shiny hair
and a magazine worthy home
who liked to ride her bike
down cliffs
and wear clothes
that the other boys wore.
Then one day
she just kind of broke
inside.
It was like the strings that connected her heart
to her head
snapped in half
or someone had given her
the wrong type of venom
and the purple parts that floated around
inside of her
just turned black.
And that was it,
she was full of demons
and she was nothing.
But one day
the demons decided that they didn’t like her
and they flew out through her ears.
They weren’t done, though.
They decided to come back for her
because there was something still very special
inside that girl,
and, well, they just liked teasing her, too.
The girl was so scared.
So, so, so scared.
She hid in dark corners
and underneath books
and locked her closet
before she went to sleep.
But then three loving hands
rested on her shoulders
and told her everything was okay.
But…it wasn’t.
And it never would be.”
