“It’s time.” Clarence whispered into my ear.

I didn’t know why the demons were nodding

with him.

“Oh, I just love death!

Such a beautiful thing.”

Judith spoke dreamily.

“Reminds me of spiders…

and…stars. Red stars…

oh, not even metaphors

can compare to it.”

“Just use you’re hands.

The only thing you’re even good at

is strangulation, anyway.”

Bruce said passively.

“You betrayed me.”

My mind was still stuck on Clarence.

He was a spiderweb

and I was caught,

still waiting for him to come

and eat me alive.

(even though sometimes

I wasn’t even sure if there

was enough of me left

from all the other times

I’d had chunks of skin

pulled off of myself

and tossed right into

the trash.)

“Get over it, honey!”

I felt a cold hand slap me on the back.

“I was only trying to give you some

motivation, now quit sobbing over

the past and kill that woman.”

I couldn’t argue with that.

I could never argue with them.
