A week went by with everything going as it should, until August 23.
"Say what?!" Elmer yelled.
The headline had just been put up and a sense of confusion and worry filled everyone. The headline read. "Lumberjacks on Strike."
"Well What's dat mean?" Specs asked.
"Is means that da the lumberjacks on strike. Which means that they can't make paper-" Blink explained before being cut off.
"Which means they can't make papes, which puts us out of business." Jack added.
"What's we supposed ta do?" Elmer asked.
"Nothing." Jack said.
Everyone looked at Jack with confusion. Jack always had a solution. "Nothing?" Race asked.
"There nothing we can do." Jack answered.
"Why does everyone havta go on strike?" Henry complained.
"We's went on strike a year ago. Youse wasn't complaining then." Specs said.
"I's only hate da strikes if they don't benefit me." Henry said.
"Papes for the newsies! They ain't gonna sell themselves." Weasel yelled.
That day everyone made less money, cause everyone bought less papers to save more over time. Everyone went to Tibby's after. "Here is a water for you, you and you." The owner of the restaurant said has he handed out water to everyone.
He was a nice man, letting the Newsies have water. " Hey!" A voice said from the door.
It was Katherine. "Hey." Jack said walking over to her pecking her on the cheek.
"What's with the lonesome faces?" Katherine asked.
"Da lumberjacks jus went on strike." Blink piped up.
"Oh, yeah I heard about that. It's gonna put quite the damper on the newspaper industry. But on the upside it might be resolved soon." Katherine said trying to be optimistic.
"I'll bet your fatha is quite worried." Jack added.
"Bet you the poor guys head is spinning." Davey jumped in.
"Yeah." Katherine admitted.
"So what's gonna happen?" Crutchie asked.
"We's gonna havta buy less den usual." Jack responded.
"What's ya mean Jack?" Racetrack asked standing on the table with anger.
"Don't get a socks in a bunch. I'm jus saying we's gonna havta fifty papes instead of a hundred."
"But den we's make less of da mola." Y/N piped in.
"Well then we's gonna havta pitch in for one another." Jack replied.
"And what does that mean?" Davey asked.
"At da end of da day we all put our money together, hand out what everyone needs to buy papes da next day. And use da rest for da things we's really need until dis horror show has passed." Jack explained.
"Ah, that's great for you, but our mother and father need all the money we make for our house's rent and bills." Davey interrupted pointing at his little brother.
"Can't ya compromise fer a little?" Jack asked leaning against a near by post.
"What says it's going to be for a little bit? Not all strikes are settled in a matter of days or even weeks! Some take months and our family can't risk that." Davey finished.
That sent the whole place booing. Y/N felt bad for Davey and Les, life must have been rough for them. "Would ya all shut up!" Y/N yelled as loud as she could.
"Well I'm sure I could pitch in a little money to help you all out." Katherine suggested.
"Hey, I couldn't take ya money." Jack shot back grabbing Katherine's hands.
"So youse wouldn't take money from a far more wealthily goil, but youse would beg a poor family for there's?" Y/N didn't want to sound rude, she was just stating fact.
"It's not like dat." Jack defended.
"Den take her kind offer."
"She has a point Jack." Katherine said with a smile.
"Fine. I'll take ya offer." Jack said giving in.
After the place cleared it was just Davey, Les and Y/N. "Hey, don't let 'em get to ya." Y/N said kindly.
"Thanks." Davey responded softly.
"Is you ok?" Y/N asked quite concerned.
"Yeah, it's just been really hard. Our dad's leg got really busted up. We thought it would heal, but we just found out it's never gonna heal properly." Davey said hesitantly.
"Dats awful." Y/N said covering her mouth.
"But we'll be fine." Davey quickly added.
"I'm sure ya will."
"Hey! Get out I got customers coming." The owner said shooing the three away.
Once Y/N steeped outside she noticed another newsie. "Crutchie? What is you still doing here?" Y/N asked.
"I's sorry. I's didn't means ta eavesdrop. I's jus heard ya conversation with Davey." Crutchie admitted getting slightly embarrassed.
"Is fine. Quite da story."
"Quite da sad story." Crutchie added.
"Like I's said yesterday, every newsie has a sad story."
There was a moment of silence, it was a bit awkward.
"Well is youse gonna head back ta da Lodging centre?" Crutchie asked rubbing his neck.
"Yeah, why not." Y/N responded as the two walked back together.
After a solid five minutes of the two walking Crutchie asked Y/N something. "So, where's was you during da strike?"
"Da strike?" Y/N asked, she wasn't really listening.
"Yeah, like da strike. Ya know da fighting, Jack and such?" Crutchie explained moving his crutch in a way to imitate fighting.
Y/N laughed a little. "I's was here. I came ta da rallies and even took a swing at Morris when it all started."
"Did ya hit 'em?" Crutchie asked with anticipation.
"Hit him right in da jaw." Y/N said demonstrating, lightly hitting her jaw.
"Was youse at da big fight?"
"Naw, my leg started acting up. After I hit Morris. He kicked meh leg, real hard too. So I's stayed back at da centre during da fight. Heard youse got dragged of to da refuge." Y/N replied.
"You knew dat?" Crutchie asked a little embarrassed.
"Pfft, who didnt? It's all da guys tawked about." Y/N responded.
Crutchie looked at the ground kicking it a bit. Y/N noticed this. "Oh, Crutchie I's didn't means ta hurt ya feelings. It wasn't like I didn't care. I's was a little worried to." Y/N quickly apologized.
"No it's fine. Is jus a little hawnting think'n bout da refuge, got beat up bad there, got a scar on my chest. It ain't big, but it's there." Crutchie explained pointing to his chest.
"Hey, I's got a scar to." Y/N mentioned.
She pointed to a tad jagged scar along her jaw line by her left ear. It wasn't a big or really noticeable scar, but it still was there.
"How'd ya get it?" Crutchie asked.
Y/N's face turned a little pink. "Well, I's fell and hit my head on a rock, leaving a mark. Once it scabbed I picked at it to much, and well now I's has dis."
"Well luckily it ain't noticeable." Crutchie said.
"Yeah." Y/N huffed under her breath.
"Well we's here." Crutchie said.
Y/N looked up to see the Lodging centre. "Guess we's part ways now." Y/N added.
"Nice tawking ta ya." Crutchie said holding his free hand out.
"Same." Y/N responded shaking his hand.
The two then parted ways.
You know, he ain't dat bad, kinda nice. Y/N thought to herself as she laid on her small cot.
Well anyways, tomorrow another day, gotta get sleep. Y/N thought as she drifted off to sleep.

A/N I didn't really know how to finish this chapter, so you suck with something dumb and cliche. Sorry. Also I'm to lazy to edit this, I might get around to it later but idk. Thanks for reading, that one person.
