Chapter 10

Bria P.O.V

I walked towards Carly's house feeling like I was floating on a piece of fluffy cotton candy. I turned back around and smiled when I saw Sam waving to me. I waved back and hurried inside before something inside of me forced me to go back to his car to get to be with him more time.

I leaned against the door and slowly put my hand on my neck, I grinned to myself, I had mated with someone. I had been chosen by a shifter who actually wanted me! I had what every single wolf in this pack wanted, a mate, someone to care for, protect, someone to who belong!

I was so happy! So incredibly happy! I couldn't believe completely, the half shifter had actually mated with someone! I was beyond happy, and somewhat relieved too, I had the slight reassurance that I wouldn't die alone or with ninety nine cats. I had someone now, the feeling was weird, and new, but also exciting.

I wouldn't have to worry about dating people, dating humans, seeing if something worked out or not, I wouldn't have to waste my time with some jerk who would hurt me in the end.

I had Samuel now.

I felt so light, happiness was bubbling inside of me. Sam would never hurt me, he wanted me to be happy, he would always make sure I was okay.

I have Sam now, echoed in every inch of my skull.

My eyes flickered up when I saw movement, and just like that, my happiness evaporated, like a switch being turned off completely.

My best friend was standing in front of me, with a very teary eyed smile, "You're back already?" she said quietly. I could tell she had been crying, her eyes were puffy and her voice was hoarse, although she looked like she was trying to look very happy for me.

I stood straight, "Carly..." I didn't even know where to start.

She smiled at me, "I thought you would be back much later," she said "I figured you had a lot to talk about with...Sam" she said.

I bit my bottom lip and walked slowly to her "I'm sorry Carly," I said honestly.

She laughed, a shaky laugh "Sorry? What for?"

I shrugged "You know..."

One little tear dropped, and I swear something inside of my chest hurt, she wiped it away quickly and rolled her eyes "You don't have to be sorry for anything, you didn't do anything wrong" she forced a laugh.

I grabbed her hands in mine, "But you're upset," I stated.

She moved her shoulders up and down "Not with you," she said sounding sincere.

"Then?" I asked already knowing the answer.

She took a deep breath and looked away "I don't know Bria, I'm just upset," she said.

"At the fact that the half shifter found a mate before you," I said for her.

She snapped her teary eyes to mine and looked like she regretted something "It's nothing against you Bria, honestly-"

"But it is," I interrupted "You're upset because I have a mate, how can I possibly have a mate when I'm only a half shifter, I don't even have a wolf. And you...you're a full shifter, so beautiful and nice, you're basically perfect, and yet you still don't have one" I'm sure I was speaking her thoughts.

Her eyes widened a little and she looked down with a look of shame, "Please don't hate me for thinking that way Bria, I don't want you to think that I hate you for that, because I don't!"
