Sam was nervous about going back to the club. Not because of the possibility that some supernatural being might sense who she is, but because HE might be there. The memory of what happened before still burned fresh in her mind, taunting her, teasing her senses.
She could still feel the warmth of his body pressed against her back, still smell his sent as it washed over her. She shivered from the memory of his lips pressed to her skin. Then the thought that both excited her and put her on edge, the way she craved for him to make her his.
The car jerked to a stop and Sam's head bud the dashboard.
"Lea! Seriously woman, you honestly need to learn how to break." She said rubbing her throbbing head. Lea laughed loudly as she got out of the car.
"I knew I should have been the one driving." Came the muffled reply of Dan as he closed the back door. Sam shook her head before getting out of the car. To say the music was loud would be an understatement. The ground itself seemed to vibrate with each beat and the stench seemed to surround her as they walked to the back door.
Don't worry my dear. Your senses are much stronger now that you have shifted for the first time. Everything you see will be brighter, clearer. Everything you hear will sound louder even though it is farther away. Nothing will be able to prevent you from using your senses to their fullest ability, but you can control what you want to hear. Just concentrate on dulling your senses to their usual capacity.
Sam nodded and with maximum effort, the sound seemed to lessen to their usual volume. With a sigh of relief, she followed her friend into the club. After a bit of concentration, she was able to lessen the smell of sweat and sex as well.
Lea shrieked the moment a song she seemed to like started playing. Dan was grabbed and pulled on to the dance floor, but he did not dare face this battle alone as he grabbed Sam by the collar and pulled her along. Lea laughed at the sight but showed no mercy as they were pulled to the center of the floor. People made space for them when they saw the beast that was Dan stomping behind a very determined woman.
Sam decided to just give in to the music and started swaying to the beat. Soon they were joined by more people and it wasn't long before a circle was made. Once again people showed off their moves; some doing moves that looked professional, others doing moves that should never have been invented. A couple danced in sync with the beat of almost every song, while another seemed to bounce around like bunnies.
Sam laughed as Lea jumped onto Dan's back and pointed to the bar. He obeyed her command and they headed to the bar, leaving Sam to dance on her own. Sam, however, did not mind as yet another good song pulsed through the club. It consumed her thoughts; it almost seemed as if Lex was also consumed by the music. Her spirit also was calm and relaxed, that was until a sent so alluring rolled over her. Lex was alert and Sam was almost purring as warm hands surrounded her waist. Instead of stepping away she leaned into the touch, Lex was going crazy and it took everything for Sam to keep control. With a will, she did not know she had Sam turned in the man's arms only to come face to face with the owner of the club. Nick was dressed in a white dress shirt and dark jeans, his hair was messy but still looked neat and his eyes seemed like two thunderclouds.
Sam tried to step away, but Nick pulled her closer and pressed his nose to her throat. She could feel his chest expand as he took a deep breath. His arms tightened around her waist as he growled into her neck. The vibration caused goosebumps to consume her skin. He trailed one hand up her arm and a trail of heat followed his touch.
"Mine." He mumbled, but before she could respond Lex came to the surface. Her eyes flashed gold and her teeth grew longer.
"Not until we both accept you." She growled out causing him to take a step back in surprise.
"It can't be." He stuttered out. His eyes turned into dark silver as his wolf took control.
"Lex?" came the caressing voice of his wolf. "How did you_"
"You might be our mate, but until we accept you, you will be nothing to us." Without warning, Sam was whiplashed back into control. The sudden change caused her to lose balance and she fell forward. Nick caught her as he took control and steadied her.
"Come with me." He did not wait for her to respond but turned and headed for his office. Sam hesitated, but Lex was quiet and did not give advice. Looking towards the bar she found Dan chatting away with the bartender and Lea pulling at his arm and pointing at Sam.
She waived to Lea then followed Nick to his office.
For a reason she could not comprehend, Sam felt the urge to tuck tail and run, but her stubborn nature would not allow her. With a face of complete confidence and control, she walked into the office only to be consumed with his sent. She could feel Lex's uneasiness, but also her need for her mate. Sam knew Lex only warned Nick to make sure he knew that she was not scared of him.
Be cautious my dear. He is the prince, the rightful heir of the throne. It is his father that ordered the slaughter.
Sam could feel her courage sink as she turned to look at the devilish man standing behind her with a sly smirk. He took a step closer to her but she stepped back. He stopped and looked at her hungrily.
"Do not run from me baby girl, you will only tempt the wolf." His deep voice teased her and made her lose focus until he moved closer to her. She moved back till her back hit the wall, but still, he stalked over to her like a predator stalking his prey and for the first time she actually felt like the prey and did not mind it. She craved for him to take control of her, she yearned for the touch of his body, his lips. She yearned for him.
She could feel Lex trying to take control and she fought it. She might not know much about a Lycan, but she knew they took mating very seriously.
"Come to me." He ordered. Sam could feel the power radiating from him. He was used to being in control, to getting what he wants. She resisted the urge to go to him causing his steps to falter.
"I said come to me." His power and command rolled over her in waves, but she refused to bow down to his command. He stopped and frowned deeply, before charging at her. He grabbed her arms and yanked her to him.
"What are you?" This time his anger was evident in his swirling grey pools, but Sam was not intimidated by his power. She allowed a small amount of her power to radiate from her, his eyes grew wide and he pulled away as if she had slapped him. Her anger now burned hotter than the core of the earth.
"What am I?" She all but shouted, "I am the one who saved your life when your brother attacked you. I am the one that got away when your father decided she-wolves had no right to life. I am the one who survived the slaughter; I am the one who, without second-guessing, decided to come back here for you. So before you try to command me, remember this; I might be a she-wolf, but I am no weakling." She pushed past his shocked form and reached for the door, but he grabbed her hand and pulled her to him.
Their eyes connected and she could see the battle raging within him and suddenly all she wanted to do was hold him close. She let her wall down and Lex came forward but did not take control. Here pure power surrounded them and he seemed to lose focus. His eyes flashed between grey and silver as she allowed Lex to join them.
"Who are you?" The turmoil laced his voice and Sam almost kissed the pain from his thoughts but stopped herself.
"I am Samantha, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of the supernatural realm. I am the last She-wolf, yes, but I am also the last being of my kind." With sadness so deep she pulled away from him, putting her wall back up. The power was erased from the room within seconds, and once again she was just a normal human girl. He looked at her, confused at her confession and a feeling of loneliness washed over his soul. His wolf howled as his mate walked from the room, her true scent lingering.
