The sound of mumbling was what brought Sam back from the dark abyss of sleep. Her mind was foggy and her body still ached in a dull throb but it was not as overwhelming as before. With a soft sigh, she lifted herself from the ground and looked at the living room. the place was a complete mess. Esree's china cupboard was completely wrecked and her one sofa was torn. books lay scattered on the floor and a few decorative pillows were torn, sending hundreds of small white feathers floating around in the room. She saw two figures out on the patio, sipping lazily on glasses of lemonade and talking softly with each other.
She recognized her aunt and almost immediately recognized Elizabeth.
"Are you going to stand there silently looking at us the whole time or are you going to join us?" Elizabeth spoke without conviction. With a voice soft a sensual, alluring and yet wise.
"I...I..." Sam stuttered and Elizabeth turned in her seat. her long black curls dancing a soft melody in the whispering wind. Her eyes glowed a magnificent green like the green of a lonely meadow on a summer day. Her skin, like ivory, seemed to glow as the sun kissed it softly. She smiled softly at Sam as she exited the house, and Sam felt herself accept Elizabeth without hesitation.
"Samantha, I see you feel better that is good. Come, have a drink and we shall talk." Sam realized that the wings that nearly killed her with a single touch were now nowhere to be seen. Elizabeth saw the question in her eyes and laughed softly. "I am able to hide them just as you are able to shift from your human form to your other, rather powerful, wolf form." Sam blushed and sat down on one of the garden chairs.
"Why are you here?" Sam asked. Esree frowned at Sam's rudeness.
"Well, I think you already know that." Sam looked down at her hands and Lex became uneasy as she pondered what she was allowed to say.
"It's starting isn't it?" She said looking up at the two women. Elizabeth just nodded and took another sip from her glass. Esree looked between them in confusion, but none of them spoke another word. She knew that this was no place for her to speak. Suddenly Lex took control and Sam was shoved rated harshly into recesses of her own mind.
"Why is this starting now?" She asked, A harsh growl causing her voice to sound threatening even to Sam. But Elizabeth seemed unfazed and leisurely took a sip of her drink.
"You see. Many years ago a young girl was born with the gift of death. She was not cursed but saw her talent as a gift. She used it to save more lives than she took, but every good person has an evil side, even if that evil was not within them. She was also gifted with eternal life and therefore gained many enemies that would do anything to destroy her." Elizabeth looked down in shame as she spoke, her voice sounding soft and uncertain.
"One day she fell in love with a handsome sorcerer who loved her just as much in return, but he belonged to another. His promised one got jealous and conspired with dark forces to destroy him." Her voice broke and a tear slipped down her ivory skin.
"You see, she was a very powerful Lycan, but not powerful enough to resist the darkness from taking over. So in order to protect his love he gave himself to his betrothed. On the night of their mating ritual, he poisoned her and himself and cursed her bloodline with his last words." Her whole body started to shake with anger and rivers of tears now streamed freely. She took a shaky breath and after a short while continued with her story.
"Her brother just so happened to be able to see into the future and what he saw terrified him and he almost told the king of Lycans about it, but the young girl stopped him and killed him. Unbeknownst to her, the brother recorded all his visions in a cursed book." She looked up at Lex with sadness and regret.
"He had a son." Her statement shocked Lex to the core. "His son opened the book and the prophecy was read to the king. That is the reason for this war. A prophecy long foretold has now dawned upon the world. This battle must be fought b the last remaining She-wolf and the one who caused it." Lex looked at Elizabeth with mixed emotions. This was truly a battle of the ages and it was up to her to fight it.
Lex gave control back to Sam who was just as angry as Lex.
"You caused this? Now I have to help you clean up your mess?" Sam stood abruptly and headed to the door. She turned back as she turned the knob. "I will fight this war and I will win, but not for you. I will do it for the ones who will suffer because of you if I don't"
With that, she left the house and Elizabeth turned to a rather confused Esree. No words were exchanged but none were needed. Esree knew better than to question this creature and Elizabeth vanished into nothingness.
A war was coming, and those supposed to be the heroes were fighting each other for the same purpose.
