"And your emotions must-" Ms. Paige turned around and stopped dead in her sentence. Her whole class laid on their desktops sleeping, daydreaming, whatever they were doing, they were not paying attention to Ms. Paige and her lecture.
"That's enough! Wake up!" She exclaimed causing her classroom to be filled with noises belonging to the items of books falling off desks, knees hitting surfaces and shouts of teenagers being awoken. "You kids can not stay awake, all of you detention after school in the gym."
The sound of the school bell releasing students from their current prison went off just in time to cover students groans and whines from further scolding from Ms. Paige.
"Get out." Ms. Paige demanded. Teenagers gathered their belongings quickly in order to leave Ms. Paige's oddly colored room with curtains, tapestries, and other strange items from around the world.
Newt Collins left the room just like everyone else, but with his eyes matched on a girl. Teresa Agnes, she had always been better than everyone with her pale white skin and dark mesmerizing hair; she made every girl jealous. Newt didn't have his heart fascinated on her like most other boys, in fact Newt despised Teresa Agnes. Newt and Teresa hadn't gotten along in ages. They couldn't remember the last time they talked without Newt being sarcastic and Teresa being snobbish, but still Newt knew things about Teresa that no one else did-
"Watch it!"
Newt was then on the ground. His things sprawled out in the floor in front of him.
Then there he was, Thomas Olson, his tall figure standing over Newt. "In case you didn't notice but you're uh...on the ground." He snickered
Thomas Olson was taller than Newt perhaps only by a few inches, his head full of dark brown hair and he was handsome too, if you're into that bad boy vibe.
"Really? Couldn't notice. In case you didn't notice your uh...ego is huge." Newt snipped back sarcastically.
People gathered around the two boys now. Well, they always did whenever Newt and Thomas were in confrontation.
"You're acting like a real ass Collins." Thomas boasted, he stood proudly like always he never showed any emotion other than anger, envy and obviously greed.
"At least I'm real." Newt never backed down from Thomas, he always put his part of the fight in.
"You calling me a liar?" Thomas now showed his anger. It was never pleasant and while he did he threw himself of top of Newt swinging at him. Teenagers cheered as the fight, their only real entertainment at school, carried on.
"I ain't calling you a truther." Newt spit at Thomas, while he bleed from his lip, taking punches and giving them right back to Thomas.
"I ought kill you!" Thomas shout while raising his fist luckily Ms. Paige and Mr. Chaf were their in time too grab the boys and seperate them from each other.
"Enough. It's almost every day you boys are at eachother throats. So quite it both of you or expulsion will be in your futures." Ms. Paige barked as she held Newt and Mr. Chaf held Thomas.
Both the boys tensed up at the work expulsion. Newt had high hopes for college and Thomas had already been expelled from two other schools.
"Go to class, and behave." The teachers demanded and left the boys. Newt gathered his things and quickly shoved past Thomas.
In return for Newts quick shove Thomas went to grab him, but Teresa Agnes appeared behind him. "He's not worth your time, Tom, let's go get a pizza for lunch."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Tom will you hand me my lotion from my bag, please?" Teresa asked as she laid out on the table, where her and Thomas were having lunch. The warm glowing sunlight hitting her entire body, but she seemed completely unaffected by it. She didn't sweat even in her thick velvet dress, she was unaffected.
"Here." Thomas dug it out from her bag. Pumpkin spice. Thomas always hated that scent, but he gave it to her anyway. "For the amount of time you spend in the sun, you're still very pale."
Teresa laughed a little, "I guess you could call it a gift Tom."
"Are you done?" Thomas asked gesturing to the pizza box.
Teresa bit her lip and looked at Thomas, "Yes, thank you." She hung her head back into the sun.
Thomas shook his head, shut and locked the pizza box in one swift movement.
"Tom, I'm sorry to be a bother, but could you help me with my English tonight?" Teresa moved and sat next to Thomas, her presence next to him set him off. He wiped his hair back on his head and scratched his arm.
"Yeah, I'll take you home after detention and we'll do it then." He nodded and then stood up. "Come on let's get to class now." He handed the pizza box to Teresa offering the leftovers. Thomas walked inside.
Teresa stood up, pizza box in her hands. She opened it, 5 pieces sat inside. Thomas ate two slices. Teresa had only had one.
She looked at the slices and felt the urge to throw up. Teresa closed the box and threw it away in the trash just inside the school doors as she walked in.
Teresa went to her next class, she didn't have it with Thomas or the people she usually talked to, but class went on easily. Eventually for Teresa it became unbearable because other student started to poke fun at the one shy girl in the back.
They poked fun at her because she was only a little over weight. It made Teresa feel ill, class continued, but once the bell rang Teresa disappeared.
Thomas didn't look forward to detention, he wasn't looking forward to dealing with Ms. Paige.
The gym wasn't exciting either, it had it's usually smell of sweat and perfume, it burned Thomas nose once he opened the doors.
All Thomas' classmates were already in the gym. Everyone except the Collins kid, who Thomas fought on a daily sat around Teresa. She looked horrible.
"Everyone follow me not to the theater." Ms. Paige called gesturing them to follow.
Thomas went to Teresa and put his arm under her as she walked, "I think she might make us paint set props again."
Teresa gave a smile then looked at her feet again.
The theater held many seats and the largest stage Thomas had ever seen.
"Sit everyone." Ms. Paige called.
The class sat separated in the first three row.
Ms. Paige moved to the stage. She looked at all her students, "You've all fallen asleep in my class to much now. I have had it. You can not learn responsibilities apparently unless they are forced upon you. So I will force them on you."
"The fall play is coming up soon in two months. This whole class is going to work and act in this play." Ms. Paige smiled as her class became almost like a battlefie
The class did not like this idea. They argued.
"I don't have time."
"No way."
"My mom said acting is gay."
"Your mom is right."
It was at this point Ms. Paige erupted "ENOUGH!" Everyone shut up that second it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. "Shakespeare. Is what we'll be doing. It's up to you kids to pick and agree on the play, to be done. You may start now. I hope you enjoy your detention."
Then the real argument begun.
