The Most Important Day

On this day everyone woke up early. Picked out and put on their best outfits. Girls applying their make up and the boys combining out their hair. Spending breakfast with their families, then getting in their cars taking a trip to the school. They would see their families again later that day, but for now they'd only see their fellow class mates.

Everyone of the senior class greeted each other in the lunch room. Everyone dressed in their absolute best, looking their absolute best.

Thomas found Newt when he arrived with Gally. Thomas hugged him tightly and kissed his head. "Do you have all your stuff pack for afterwards?"

Newt nodded his head, after graduation he was to go straight to the airport to catch a flight to New York. "Yeah, they're in the trunk of my car."

Everyone talked for a while until the school principal and guidance councilor walked into the front of the lunch room drawing everyone's attention. "Listen here, we've been through the walked a dozen times, do not mess it up. It's a very important day for all of you. Get in your correct order of walk."

All the students lined up in their correct order, Thomas stood next to Harriet, her hair was up in a neat bun, Thomas couldn't see her outfit only her black heels.

"Caps on, gown on!"

Everyone slipped on their gowns then zipped them up from the bottom and put on their caps making sure they we're on tight and secure.

"Ready we're a go in five, four, three, two, walk!"

All the students walked out in their order, in the correct timely matter. Walking while the graduation anthem played. When the students reached the right row, they sat in their correct seat waiting for the rest of the ceremony to take place.

The schools principal walked onto the stage and gave the long speech about how they all put in the effort to get here, and how they would all go on to do greater things and how the journey isn't over.

Most the valedictorian's speeches were the same. Except the one who walked up cleared their throat then shouted, "Fuck this place!"

It caused some students to laugh, also some parents. The principal quickly sent them off stage and regained the order of the room.

Once they started announcing name everything went much quicker.

"Thomas Olson."

Thomas walked onto the stage, taking his diploma from the principal, shaking the hand of the super attendant, and walking off stage standing on a 'X' made of white tape, to get his picture taken.

Thomas smiled. He made it. They all made it.

After the ceremony, everyone took themselves outside to take photos with their families and friends. Except Newt, his family showed up, but he avoided them at all costs. Newt only took pictures with Thomas and his friends. Gally's mother took all the photos for Newt. Lizzy and Newt's parents did walk up to him, to say goodbye, then knew he was leaving right after. Lizzy was heart broken, she never got to make amends with her brother. Perhaps the future would bring amends to the whole Collins family.

Thomas and Newt received one final photo, that wasn't even meant to be taken. Miss Lamon's finger just slipped, capturing a photo of Thomas and Newt sharing a kiss, while wearing their gowns and caps.

Thomas hugged Teresa, and so did Newt.

Teresa smiled at the boys, "It's over. Everyone got their happy ending."

Newt grabbed Thomas' hand, "Yeah, we were friends once, and now we're friends again."

Thomas looked at his watch, "Newt it's time to go."

All their friends came around to say good bye to Newt. They all gave him a hug, even Minho. Out of all of them, Chuck was the one who cried.

Newt gave them all one final wave as he and Thomas drove away from the school. Thomas drove Newt's car to the airport, because he'd have to drive it back home for Newt.

The boys took their cap and gowns off when inside the car, so they walked into the airport dressed like normal people.

Thomas only got to go with Newt up to security, then he had to stay behind. Thomas hugged Newt, using all his strength not to cry. However, Newt wasn't so good at concealing his feeling. He didn't fight his tears he let them roll down his cheeks as he and Thomas said goodbye.

Newt was going to miss Thomas the only person who ever understood him, the person he loved more than anything.

And Thomas loved Newt more than anything.

Thomas kissed his head, "It's gonna be okay, we're gonna see each other again before the leaves even change colors."

Newt smiled, "Okay. I have to go."

Thomas nodded, "Yeah."

"Bye."

"Bye, Newt."

Newt walked through security then grabbed his bags and continued walking through the rest of the airport. Thomas didn't say 'I love you' to Newt for purposes of forgetting that he'd never have another chance to do it, and that it would break his heart to much.

Thomas turned around and started to walk back the way he came to leave the airport.

He stopped and turned around once he heard his name. "Thomas!"

It was Newt, he was past security, waving his hand at Thomas.

Thomas waved back.

Newt smiled, "I love you Tommy!"

Thomas felt warm tears run down his cheek, but they weren't visible to Newt, "I love you too Newt."

Newt smiled then turned around and went to get on his plane.

Thomas drove Newt's car back to Thomas' house and parked it in the drive way. Thomas walked into the house, his dad and his friends were sitting in the living room waiting for him. Teresa stood up to greet Thomas. Before she could even say anything, Thomas broke into tears. Teresa hugged him. "You guys are gonna be fine. You're meant to be together. Happily ever after."
