early morning

it was funny to Killua that his nen was electricity, essentially lightning, and yet (y/n) was huddled under a blanket as thunder and lightning cracked outside their hotel window. Yorknew City has been rainy and melancholy for days, and for days (y/n) had been jumping and hiding from the weather. even right as she woke up.

"(y/n), you're being ridiculous."

"no I'm not! I don't care what my or your nen is, lightning and rain are completely different!" Killua sighed and sat down on the edge of the bed, looking out the huge window at the dark grey sky and heavy rain. somewhere, he did understand why she was scared, Killua just found more humor in the situation than he did concern...which is why he found a funnier solution to the problem before he chose to be more caring.

in one motion, Killua flipped the covers off of her, threw her over his shoulder and sat down in front of the window with (y/n) in between his legs. she was curled up, back pressed as far into Killua as possible. her (e/c) eyes were squeezed shut, and if Killua didn't know any better he would've thought (y/n) was a child when she huddled into his arms.

"you have to open your eyes for this to work, (y/n)." with an exaggerated whine, she peeked her eyes open, and looked out of the window at the rainy town. it wasn't as bad anymore, sitting in Killua'a arms while she watched the rain fall. the dark grey of the sky, almost black, that contrasted with the chrome skyscrapers and the light blue she imagined behind the clouds. they got darker the farther away they were, and (y/n) could only imagine how hard it was raining closer to the horizon.

"lightning isn't going to hurt you. you have more of a chance of seeing Gon act his age than getting struck by lightning." somewhere in the city, Gon shivered, but Killua and (y/n) laughed. the (h/c) haired girl finally relaxed into his arms, watching the rain, listening to the thunder, following the bolts of lightning with her eyes.

she had to admit, with Killua by her side it was pretty, but (y/n) would never admit that she was indeed being ridiculous. there was a better chance of her getting struck by lightning than letting Killua know he was right, and Killua knew it. he watched the sour expression pass on (y/n)'s face at the prospect of conceding, and she shivered when he adjusted his hands on her waist.

"Killua, what are you doing?"

"getting you to admit that I was right." (y/n) imagined a cat tail flicking side to side deviously behind Killua's head, but the image might as well have washed away with the rain as he tickled her sides. the lightning and thunder was drowned out by her pleas, their laughs, and it wasn't scary to her anymore. but (y/n) refused to admit that, not even when her stomach started hurting after so much laughing.

"Gon, where are we going?"

"it's a surprise! keep the blindfold on!"

I can't see anything anyway...

Gon dragged (y/n) by the hand to somewhere she could t see. it was dark, and the only give away as to where the two of them were going was the occasional crackling of leaves on the steps they were climbing. it was the beginning of summer and the air was hot, but that didn't stop the feeling of it getting thinner the higher they got. or maybe it was just how many stairs they were going up...

"we're here! you can't take off the blindfold until I'm ready, m'kay?" (y/n) laughed, but she nodded her head nonetheless. she listened to rustling, shuffling of feet, the happy sounds Gon would make every once and a while, and finally she felt his hands on her head. Gon untied the blindfold, but as soon as he slipped it off he covered (y/n)'s eager (e/c) eyes with his hands.

"Mito once told me that the sky is different for everyone that looks at it. she said everyone's eyes hold a different picture, so I wanted to see what yours held!" before she could even begin to question him, Gon slipped his hands off of her eyes, and Akihito felt her breath catch in her throat.

the sun was setting, shades of yellow, green and blue fading gracefully into one another. the sun was barely peeking over the horizon, dragging out the last few minutes of the summer day. there was a blanket laid out in front of them covered in sweets, and (y/n) couldn't help but smile because it was so Gon. (y/n) would've said it was the prettiest thing she'd ever seen, but Gon was sitting next to her, smiling without a care in a world while he watched her reaction.

"so? what does the sky look like to you?" he popped a piece of candy in his mouth, but his attention was wholeheartedly directed at (y/n). she shook her head with a smile and leaned on his shoulder, watching the sun set slowly. Gon? he was more focused on (y/n).

"it's pretty. I see a lot of blues and yellows and greens, the stars are starting to light up, and I get to watch it with you. thanks for taking me here." Akihito sat up and kissed his cheek, and Gon felt the tips of his ears warm up. he wished it was because of the summer heat, not because (y/n)'s words made butterflies flutter around his stomach, and definitely not because she kissed him. he would keep telling himself that too, even if (y/n) knew otherwise.
