Hinata was a force to be reckoned with in terms of his unconventional charisma. though the orange haired freshmen had yet to notice how he was affecting his two friends.

Karasuno's genius setter and clever middle blocker never really got along. the set was never good enough, the hit wasn't aggressive enough. there was always something wrong. one was always "too loud," the other was "too mean and unsociable." but they were on the same team, and had more than a few things in common. they both played volleyball for one, and Hinata Shoyo had changed their lives in ways they couldn't forget.

if there was one thing that could be said about Karasuno's genius setter, it was how competitive he was. Kageyama hated losing, more than he thinks he would hate losing someone he loved.

on another hand, Tsukishima was there to be there, or so he said to himself. he hated losing just as much as his setter did, but he couldn't compare it to anything. he just hated losing, simple as that. which is why it was fortunate these two competitive spirits were partnered today.

"Bakashima! you're not supposed to knock me over!"

"then you should move your oh so genius self over to avoid it." today's challenge for the two was swing blocking, and Kageyama wasn't moving far enough out the the antenna of the net for Tsukishima. which ultimately, according to the middle blocker himself, was all Kageyama's fault.

"Kageyama! Tsukishima! I told you to work together not fight with each other!" Daichi yelled at them from across the net causing both of them to pout before they began their block steps again. as Tsukishima jumped, an orange blur jumped with him as well, and he saw the big grin Hinata had on his face as he was racing Tanaka. Tsukishima's heart jumped a little at the smile he had before he landed.

Kageyama stood where he was on the right side, looking with slight distaste at the obvious reaction Tsukishima had on his face—that ditzy look in his eye, the pink flaring up on his cheeks. it pissed Kageyama off for reasons he has yet to understand. the setter shook his head slightly and took a step to his left and began his own block steps.

'why...does it matter to me what makes Tsukishima blush?'

"Kageyama! let's go eat!" Hinata jumped up and down next to Kageyama's seat, the setter's hand being held as Hinata jumped. Kageyama had once again fallen asleep in class.

"hng, stop jumping..." He sat up and let out a sigh, giving Hinata a small smile before he stood up. He slipped his hand out of Hinata's and jammed them into his pockets as they walked side by side.

"did you see me jump higher than Stingyshima this morning?! it was like swoosh and then I was like zoom and then I came down and I went swoosh again to the right side!" Kageyama felt himself in a gracious mood although his sleep was cut short, letting him look down at Hinata and give him a second smile.

"yeah, I saw you. your swing blocking is getting better." Hinata gaped at Kageyama, mouth wide open and eyes enlarged and everything before he was jumping around again.

"Kageyama gave me a compliment! Kageyama gave me a compliment!" he jumped around like that until they got to the cafeteria, the whole time Kageyama looking off in an opposite direction with another smile as Hinata enjoyed himself.

they walked into the cafeteria holding a slightly comprehensive conversation, while Tsukishima followed their movements, looking at them over the rim of his glasses.

"Tsukki? you've barely touched your food." the blonde blinked and looked at his freckled friend before picking up his chopsticks.

"I'm fine, a few things are giving me a headache."

Tsukishima thought he would always be there just to be there. he had no reason to have a competitive drive other than just not wanting to lose. he thought he couldn't compare it to anything, but looking at the crazy duo that was his fellow middle and his genius setter he realized he hated losing to anyone with considerable skill. he hated losing to Kageyama. so he wasn't going to.

"Hinata, stay after with me for practice." Hinata gaped for the second time that day, his jaw was beyond hitting the floor—it had crashed through the concrete. Tsukishima? asking Hinata to practice with him? what type of danger was he in to ask Hinata?

"don't look so excited...," Tsukishima fidgeted and messed with his hands, his eyes shifting a little much to his dismay, " I just, I want you to help me...please." Hinata almost jumped out of his skin. he was less so excited than he was terrified. Tsukishima said please to him.

'the world has to ending. or maybe I'm dreaming, or maybe Tsukishima was drugged...or he's being held at gun point from somewhere unknown...'

"don't you think it'd be better to ask Kageyama to practice with us too? I mean neither of us can set very well so-"

"I, uh, I just want to practice with you. alone." Hinata swallowed hard because Tsukishima made him feel knowledgeable about volleyball. which he totally was, if you exclude all his passing incidents.

"okay! well let's go!" Hinata took no time in grabbing the blonde's hand and running from the school building over to the gym. when they busted through the door and out to the first breezeway, only Tsukishima noticed there were eyes on them. he looked around for a while as they ran before he saw a ball dropping and Kageyama staring as they passed by him. was that hurt in his eyes? annoyance? Tsukishima didn't really care, it was proof he had one the first battle, but not particularly the war.

Kageyama Tobio hated losing to anyone, more than he thought he would hate losing someone he loved. but something about being in the process of losing someone you loved seemed to hurt more than losing in anything else. Kageyama didn't like it, he wasn't one for painful things.
