I felt like I was going to fall asleep before the assessment even started. All the training and practising that November had done with me yesterday had taken its toll on my body. After I had gone home my body was so drained of energy that I fell asleep on the couch without even saying hello to anyone.
I had woken up once again by my repeating dream; at least they had gone back to finding the dragon in the clearing instead of facing the eerie man alone in the field of grass. Having Ezra with me made me feel safer from the hooded figure. Despite the dreams going back to normal, I still couldn't find out why I was having them or why I couldn't change what happened.
What had made it worse was that I couldn't leave for a run at midnight so I took a shower instead. My biggest mistake was deciding to try and play with the water which caused me to use up a lot of the energy I had regained. In the end I gave up and left to make myself food. After that I fell asleep again.
The worst part was trying to explain to my parents and Rachel why I was still so tired in the morning, even after falling asleep on the couch for a solid 14 hours. The problem was that i'm not a good liar meaning convincing them was ... a little difficult.
Resting my head across the table I tried to remember all the studying I had done a few days before. Anything I managed to remember would help me in this Laws of Magic test. I just hoped it was enough to let me pass.
"Elizabeth Wright! Sit up straight in your chair! I hope for your sake that you're not sleeping in MY class!," Miss Crowley's shrill voice shattered my attempt at remembering my notes and I shot up straight in my chair.
The entire class had turned to face me and the attention made me shift uncomfortably in my chair. I looked at the old women in the grey jacket as she walked around the class handing out the test paper to everyone. She had small glasses with thin grey rims resting in the middle of her nose so that she could look down at students as she walked around the class.
I muttered an apology under my breath but regretted it as soon as I did since she spoke to me once more but this time with an increased sense of disapprovement and haughtiness, "You do realise if you don't pass this test you will struggle to get complete your first quest this year and from your progress, or should I say lack of progress, in this class I think you should start to panic."
She stopped in front of my desk and placed the dreaded paper on my desk with scorn. I clicked open my pen and began.

I sat slumped in my usual chair in the common room with Sarah opposite me. Sam had just left to find food to forget about the horror she just had to face. I hoped she brought something back for me because I also needed some way to forget about the Laws of Magic assessment we all just had to go through.
"I failed. I know I failed," I said to Sarah with an exasperated sigh, "Miss Crowley hates me; even more than I hate Laws of Magic."
Sarah nodded, "She definitely hates you. At least you're not the only one that's going to fail. I am too as well as most of the class."
"Other than Roubin. I don't understand how he is able to understand everything we have to learn. It all goes in one ear and comes out the other ear for me."
"I can surprisingly understand some of it but nowhere near as much as Roubin," Sam said as she sat in her seat and dropped a bag of popcorn in my lap and a bag of crisp in Sarah's.
"I give up. I really hope we don't get the results anytime soon," I said as I opened the packet and began to eat. I was dreading the results more than the test because I had to pass it to know that I could at least get somewhere with the exam. My quest to find my dragon depended on it.
