Warnings: just a tiny bit of angst but mostly fluffy

"If you fail, if the tesseract is kept from us, there will be no realm, no barren moon, no crevice where he can't find you. You think you know pain? He will make you long for something as sweet as pain."

Loki woke up with a strangled yell leaving his mouth. Cold sweat covered his face as tears escaped his eyes; the words of one of thanos' lackeys echoing in his mind the nightmare still fresh. He was shaking from the fear, it was like he was really reliving that moment. Loki decided maybe he would feel better if he went to the kitchen and made a cup of tea which is what he did.

Meanwhile, you were awoken upon hearing a yell in the room next to you. Loki. Every night you knew he had nightmares, for his yells and whimpering always woke you up. You never did anything, however,  in fear of destroying the friendship you have already built with him. You didn't want to make him feel weak or intrude on his personal thoughts.

However you were done listening to him suffer alone and you were willing to risk your established friendship if it means Loki being happy. You had a feeling you would find him in the kitchen making tea to calm his nerves, and were proven correct to see him sipping his tea while leaning against the counter.

"Hey why are you up so late?" You asked walking over to him.

"Oh it's nothing I just couldn't sleep. How about you what keeps you awake at such a late hour?"

You quickly scanned your brain for an excuse because you couldn't just outright tell him his nightmare woke you up.

"I couldn't sleep either."

Loki just nodded and took a sip of his tea. You both fell into a comfortable silence until you walked over to Loki and put a hand on his arm comfortingly. He looked at you confused and also with a sense of relief at the touch.

"The real reason I woke up was because I heard you having a nightmare, are you okay?" Loki now looked at you, surprised, as sadness began to cloud his gaze.

"I'm sorry darling I didn't mean to wake you, and, yes, I'm fine."

You could tell he was lying by the fear and sadness in his eyes.

"Don't apologize for having a nightmare it wasn't your fault you don't have control over what you dream; and it's obvious you're not okay so are you sure you don't want to talk about it?"

He sighed and gently grabbed your hand leading you to his bedroom. One you were both inside and the door was closed, he sat you down next to him on his bed and began to explain.

"My nightmare had to do with a threat that was said to me by one of thanos' minions. I have the same nightmare every night and it just reminds me that one of these days thanos will find me and kill me and the people I care about," Loki finished shakily not being able to meet your eyes.

"Aww Loki I'm so sorry baby," you whispered pressing a soft kiss to his forehead. "I'm scared he'll hurt you," he confessed, finally looking into your eyes, tears streaming down his cheeks.  You felt tears of your own beginning to prick at your eyes. This was the most vulnerable you have ever seen him and you didn't know what to do.

"Oh Loki I'm okay, I'm here, look," you told him softly taking his hand and pressing it to your beating heart to show you were here with him and okay.

A hint of a smile ghosted on Loki's face as he took the hand over your heart and used it to cup your cheek. He pressed his lips to yours in a desperate kiss filled with fear and love, the salt from both of your tears mingling in.
When you both separated due to the need of oxygen, you pressed your foreheads together, eyes finally fluttering open after a silent moment.

"Will you stay with me, love?" He asked softly caressing your cheek with his thumb.

"Of course," you answered smiling as Loki began to scoot over and make room for you in the bed. Once you lied down and got comfortable, he pulled you close to his chest and pressed a lingering kiss to the top of your head.

"I love you so much (Y/N), I have for a while now."

"I love you too Loki, so much," you told him back moving your head up a bit to press another kiss to his lips, the taste becoming addicting. He smiled as you buried your head in his chest and fell asleep to his heart beat.

"Goodnight, my love," he said as he traced Asgardian scriptures on your back as he fell into a deep sleep which would only be filled with good dreams about you; not a nightmare to be found.
