"Okay Denise, give me one more push!!!" She gave one last push and soon her baby girl popped out. The doctor caught her and her dad clipped the umbilical cord before the doctor handed her off to me.
"Well aren't you a cutie." I said as I wiped her off.
I suctioned her mouth and nose before weighing her.
"8lbs and 10 1/2 ounces. 18 inches long." I said to the nurse who was writing down the information.
I put her arm band around her and swaddled her in her blanket.
"Congratulations mommy and daddy. Here's your beautiful baby girl." I handed her to them and watched as they were in complete and utter awe.
"Great job back there as always ." The doctor patted my back.
"You as well Dr.Givens." He smiled and walked off.
I cleaned the area up a little where I was before turning back around to the patient.
"They will be in here in about 20 minutes to talk to you about everything and to take her to the nursery to run some test to make sure everything is fine. Congratulations again." They smiled and nodded at me and I walked out.
I sighed and looked at my watch. "5:45 am." I walked to my desk and sat down ready for the 15 minutes to pass so I could go home.
I loved my job seeing that the only reason I went back and finished school was so I can be an OB nurse. I couldn't have any kids of my own so I wanted to be as close to kids as possible. I'm a medical assistant right now, but I'm taking courses to officially become an OB nurse and it's going pretty good.
2 years ago, I lived in Houston. I was lost and had nothing. I was being mistreated, beaten and verbally abused. I wasn't myself and I damn sure wasn't happy.
Now, I live in Atlanta. I'm a medical assistant who makes great money and my specialty is OBGYN. I have my own car and condo. I'm living life, I'm loving life, and I'm happy. I'm the greatest thing that has happened to me at this point.
"Alright you guys. I will see you in two days!" I yelled to my coworkers as I got my things together.
"Okay boo! Thanks for working for me last week too!" My coworker Ashley said.
"No problem love. See you later." I grabbed my keys and bag and left.
I was extremely tired but I needed to stop by the store and grab a few things for my house.
