Chapter Two

Mayslee

I wake up to the sound of a rooster. I groan and get up. I take a quick shower and throw on my black and white flannel shirt, jeans, and boots. I head downstairs and see that mom had made pancakes and bacon. My favorite. "Good morning Mama!" I say kissing her on the cheek. "Good morning Mayslee. I made your favorite." She says. "I know and thanks." I say. I fix me a plate and sit down and eat. I look at the time. It's 8:30. I get up and put my dishes in the dishwasher. I grab my hat and head to the barn. I feed the chickens and Bessie our cow. I feed Rainbow my horse and grab my saddle. I put the saddle on Rainbow and jump up and start riding. I ride into the woods and find my old tree house. I tie Rainbow to a tree and feed him some carrots. I climb up the ladder and climb through the tiny door. I fall asleep quickly in my tree house. I wake to my father screaming my name. "Mayslee!" He screams. "Guys look it's her horse." I hear my best friend Cole's voice. I quickly climb down and scream, "I'm here!" I climb on Rainbow and meet my parents and Colton. "Hey, Mays!" Cole says. "Hey, Cole!" I say. "Mayslee Elizabeth Donner! You about gave me a heart attack!" My mom says. "Sorry, mom. I must have fallen asleep in the tree house." I say. "It's okay." She replys. "Race Ya to the house!" I tell Cole. He nods. I take off. As I'm about to win he passes me. "Damn you Cole!" I scream. I hear him chuckle. I put Rainbow up and walk down to the swimming hole. I see Cole and run at him. I push him and he screams "Mays!" I start laughing. "Here, I will help you." I say sticking my hand out. He takes my hand and pulls me in. "Cole!! Was that really necessary!" I scream. "Yes, yes it was." He says chuckling. I smack him playfully on the arm. "You know you're beautiful" Cole says. I blush. "Thanks" I say. He lifts my chin up and kisses me.
