i. First Day
Cassie

"Mama! Mama!"

I smiled and woke up to see my son, Xavier, jumping onto the bed. I sat up and grabbed him, hugging him tightly.
"Good morning baby boy."

"Good morning mommy!" He giggled, sitting up next to me and showing me his beautiful light colored eyes.

This little boy was my twin.

"You ready for the first day of school?"

He nodded happily with a smile still plastered on his face.
"Yes! I'm ready to make new friends!"

"That's my boy. Come on let's get you ready." I said, picking him up and getting off of the bed.

We both walked into the bathroom to brush our teeth and wash our face. Xavier mimicking everything I did. After that I made him a bowl of cereal to eat and put on SpongeBob while I got his outfit out. I ironed our outfits and quickly put mines on. I curled my hair and put it up in ponytail, then placed some light makeup on. Soon, I heard little footsteps come into my room.
"Mommy?"

I turned to him and put my mascara down.
"Yeah sweetie?"

"I finished my cereal." He said, pointing to the empty bowl on the counter.

I smiled.
"Good job. Now let's get you dressed."

As we walked to his room, he turned to me and smiled.
"I'm happy you're my teacher mommy."

"I'm happy too baby." I smiled, buttoning his shirt and slightly ruffling his hair.

I was a kindergarten teacher for my sons school in Boston. I had gotten the job at this prestigious private elementary school. I was able to allow my son to go, free of tuition and I was ecstatic when I realized he was placed in my class. I finished dressing him and smiled as I looked down at my son who I was raising on my own. I was proud to be a single mom and I was proud of my son and how far we came. From getting pregnant in high school, to having his father abandon us. I got my degree, got a lofty teaching job, and got us our own two floor apartment. It was finally his first day of kindergarten.
We walked down to my car and I quickly strapped him in the backseat before driving off. It was convenient that we only lived about 10 minutes from the elementary school. We walked into my classroom, which I had decorated the night before and Xavier sat down waiting for his classmates to arrive.

"Happy first day of school Xavier!"

I looked up to see my best friend Sabrina walk into the classroom and hug Xavier, her godson.

"Thanks Auntie Sab." He smiled, shyly.

She turned to me.
"Happy first day to you too teacher."

"Happy first day principal." I chuckled back, writing my name on the board.

I loved the fact that me and Sabrina were coworkers, she was one of my best friends and I was proud that she had gotten this job as principal.

"Good luck girl. I should get going."

"Thanks." I smiled, as I noticed children start walking into the classroom.

They each greeted me and slowly walked to their seats, playing with the toys on the desk or talking to their classmates. As the bell was about to ring, Sabrina walked back in with a little girl by her side. The little girl looked really shy yet excited at the same time.

I smiled and looked down.
"Who is this adorable girl?"

Sabrina smiled.
"This is Olivia. Olivia Irving. She just moved here from Cleveland."
