That next morning I groggily drove Jake and I to school, as he said that he was going to come over after school anyway.

"Okay, I know for a fact that you don't care how famous Ashton is, but the girls at our school do. They are going to bombard you," Jacob warned as I pulled into the school parking lot.

"How do you know that?" I asked.

"Because they bombarded me! And I didn't know anything. Charlie, just stay close to me, please," Jacob said seriously.

"Fine," I said as I shut off my car.

We walked in the side entrance of the school as we always did, and when I saw the mass of girls waiting for me, I immediately ran up the staircase that was to my right.

Jacob was right next to me and gave me a look as if he was saying, 'I told you.'

We ran to both of our lockers were thankfully in the same hallway of the large school.

My locker had pictures of Jake and I, mostly from the weekend we took a trip to Seattle by ourselves, several months before.

I grabbed my band binder as well as my AP Biology and AP Spanish binders.

Jacob and I had sucked up to our guidance counselor the year before so we had the ability to make our schedules identical, so I didn't have to worry about not having my best friend around.

Jake and I stayed upstairs for as long as we possibly could, making our way to above the music hallway, which was where our first period was.

Jacob played the trumpet and had the reputation of being the best in our entire school. He sat first chair in our schools wind ensemble.

The wind ensemble was reserved for the schools most skilled musicians and was mainly composed of seniors as well as amazingly talented juniors. Jacob made it as a sophomore, showing how good he actually was.

I sat first chair out of the three tenor saxophones we had in the ensemble.

I also sat next to the first chair alto saxophone player, John, who was an acquaintance of mine.

He considered us close friends but I considered us just friends.

John was nice enough though, he kept the class interesting, considering I couldn't be near Jacob.

Jacob and I quickly snook down the stairs and took the back door into the music storage lockers where we both retrieved our instruments.

We walked into the band room and out the door into the hallway to get to the stage where our ensemble met.

I saw some people point and whisper at me as I made my way to the stage door, but I ignored them and pushed on.
