I stood frozen in place as Calum called Luke over. Luke had a smile plastered on his face until he met eyes with me; his mouth that was turned up at the corners, exposing his perfect teeth was now in a straight line. He bit his lip as he met eyes with Ashton; I could tell he was trying to place where he knew him from.
Luke changed the mood of the air as he greeted me with a smile once he was close enough to have a conversation. "Hi,"
"Hey," I smiled. Luke looked from me to Ashton and back to me, as if he was still trying to figure out who he was. I took this as my queue to formally introduce him to Luke. "Um, this is Ashton."
"Hey man," Ashton nodded. "I think we met the other night, that was you in Denny's right?"
Luke's eyes widened and I could see him putting the pieces together as Ashton took out his pack of cigarettes, grabbed one and lit it between his lips.
"Taylor," Luke said cautiously. He grabbed my forearm and dragged me slightly away from Calum and Ashton. "Why the fuck are you hanging around this guy?"
I pulled my arm away from his grip. "I like him."
He raised his eyebrows and bit his lip in frustration, getting the wrong idea. "No, no, Luke, not like that, I just-"
"You know what, Taylor?" he raised his hands in defeat, backing away from me. "Are you going to kiss him?"
I blinked. "W-what?"
"Are you going to spend the weekend with him, tell him you like him, and then drop him like nothing ever happened, like you two shared nothing at all?" he laughed forcefully. "Because that sounds a lot like what you did to me. It sort of sucks, because I wanted to continue our relationship, what we had, but you went home and kissed Michael. I mean, you two were at your house, alone, who knows what could have happened."
"Luke-" I tried to stop him, but he wouldn't let me.
"I guess it's karma, I did sleep with that girl we liked." he said to himself. "But what I didn't expect was for you to find another guy, one you met in a parking lot, and for you to bring him as your date here." he shook his head and raised his hands again. "I hate you, Taylor. I hate you, and your games, whatever the hell you want to call it."
"Hate me, Luke? Hate me? You don't know me enough to say you hate me!" I scoffed, inching closer to his face, trying to intimidate him. "You don't even know me enough to say that you like me, any feelings you have towards me are purely infatuation."
"You really believe that?" he huffed. "I know a lot about you, Taylor." he closed more space between us. I stepped back, into the wall behind me. He was breathing hard; I could smell alcohol on his breath, but with my little knowledge of it, I couldn't identify what exactly it was.
"Like what?" I snapped.
"You like Fruity Pebbles and tacos," Luke placed his right arm next to my head, cornering me. "You care a lot how other people feel about you, even now. You're getting nervous, wondering what Ashton is thinking right now-"
"Luke," I whispered sternly. His face was centimeters away from mine; both of our eyes were closed in anticipation.
"I know you want me to kiss you right now," he breathed his alcohol-breath right into my nose; I felt drunk off his presence.
"No," I swallowed. "that's what you want." I pushed his chest to get him out of my face. My body was instantly filled with a burst of confidence; Luke thinking he knew everything about me annoyed me and I wanted to prove him wrong.
I walked with purpose back over to Ashton - who was engaged in conversation with Calum - and put both of my hands on his shoulders.
His eyes widened at the gesture. Before he could react, I smashed my lips onto his; without hesitation he slid is hands on my neck and I moved mine down his chest. He wasted no time deepening the kiss; opening his mouth, slipping his tongue into mine. It was startling, but nice.
