Luke turned on his car and a familiar tune played through the speakers that I instantly recognized.
"You listen The 1975?" I asked excitedly.
"Yes, I love them! I'm surprised you know who they are, most people don't." he spoke quickly. I could see a spark of passion in his eyes as this discovery was made.
I nodded. "I know, right? They're amazing, and so many people don't know who they are."
Luke had a large smile plastered on his face as he began to back out of my driveway and onto the street. He had such a beautiful smile, I was envious of him; my teeth were in places they shouldn't be in my mouth while his teeth were perfectly placed in a straight line.
"So, how did you hear about them?" Luke asked, taking me out of my thoughts.
"Oh, well, around August, Ed Sheeran tweeted about them and said to check them out, so I did and I've been obsessed ever since." I recalled. "What's your favorite song?"
He blew air out of his mouth as he thought about his answer. "I'm going to have to say," he dragged out the last word. "The City."
I hummed, agreeing.
He looked over at me. "What about you?"
"Uh, well," I chuckled, knowing when I said it he would laugh. "Sex in my favorite."
Unlike my expectations, he nodded his head. "Why?"
"I don't know, it's not like I've had sex or anything-"
"Obviously, you had your first kiss today." he laughed.
"Anyways," I shook my head. "I think Matty is a beautiful songwriter, and the story he tells in the song is so perfectly sung. You know how the first lyric is, 'and this is how it starts', that's where the story beings with him and this girl and I think it's just beautiful."
"I think you just like when Matty says, 'we might as well just fuck'." Luke snickered.
I gasped. "No! Ugh, if you weren't driving, I would hit you!"
This caused an eruption of laughter from Luke; I'm not sure if he thought his comment was funny or my response.
Luke parked on the street in front of the house he told me was his friend Ashton's; I could hear the music blaring from the house as we stepped out of the car. Luke led me to the white front door with his hand lightly placed on my back; a comforting gesture. Without even caring to knock, Luke opened the door.
The music that was audible from outside the house was incredibly loud once inside, the walls shaking from the bass. The recognizable scent of alcohol filled my nose, making it crinkle. The crowds of people inside reminded me of being in school as Luke guided me, but much more colorful, with a lot more skin showing. I looked down at the yellow dress I had been wearing all day and scolded myself for trusting Luke with saying it was appropriate.
This was exactly what I was afraid of.
A girl wearing a lacy pink bra and high waisted shorts approached Luke with a tray of red cups. He took two off of it and handed one to me.
"Um, what is this?" I asked, slightly yelling over the music and noisy conversations in the air.
"Good." he smiled.
"I told you I don't care for alcohol,"
"Then you haven't had good drinks," he said before he chugged the beverage in his cup. "Try it, you can't even taste the alcohol."
