I hadn't had a crush on a boy since Sam McDonnell in grade four, but I never really count that since we were all young and didn't know what we were doing back then. But I am not young anymore, I'm sixteen years old and I know for sure what I am doing;  I definitely knew had a crush on Luke Hemmings.

I sat face down on my bed reliving every encounter I had with him earlier, starting with the quick glance I got of him conversing with his mother in my second period, to me literally running into him in the hallway, to me in his car for a few too-short minutes.

I don't know if it was his unrealistically blue eyes that attracted me to him, or his long limbs and tall hair, or if it was him going out of his way to be nice to me twice today, and still wanting to continue our relationship after I behaved in the most unbelievable and embarrassing of ways.

I hated that I stuttered when I felt nervous. It makes it impossible to mask my nerves, and easy to read. Vulnerable.

I groaned loudly into my mattress, annoyed at my personality.

My childish actions were interrupted as my new cell phone vibrated against my wood bedside table, threatening to fall off. I reached for the new piece, having to get a new one along with a new American number, and answered it, not knowing who was on the other line.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hi babe."

I coughed in response, knowing exactly who I was talking to.

"H-how did you get my number, Luke?"

"My mom's a teacher, she has access to everyone's information. So I got your number." he sounded proud of himself.

I stayed silent, quietly admiring his desire to have my number.

"What are you up to?" he asked.

"Um," Oh, you know, just obsessing over our short time spent together today, and analyzing every moment of it. "Just unpacking," I lied.

"Mm, still not completely moved in yet?"

"No, not yet." That was true; I hadn't finished moving into my room because I was thinking about how empty headed I sounded around him today.

I took my phone away from my ear and covered the end where I talk with my hand as someone knocked on my door.

"Come in!" I called.

My mother peeked her head in my room, not coming fully in. "Just checking up on you." She noticed my phone. "Who's that?"

"J-just a friend."

Joyously, she smiled. "Good! I'm happy you've made friends."

She winked at me as she pulled her head out of my doorway, and I wondered if she could tell if I was talking to a boy from the look on my face.

I removed my hand from my phone. "Sorry about that, my mother."

"It's all cool." I could hear his understanding smile through the speaker. "So, tell me about your first day at American school."

It was hard to enjoy small talk with Luke, because I was carefully choosing my words to sound as normal as I could. I suppose he was liking talking to me, because we stayed on the phone for a few hours.

In the middle of me saying something to Luke, my phone made a beeping noise. I pulled it away from my face to see the screen, it said Michael was calling me. Unlike Luke, I had personally given Michael my phone number.

"Can you hold on a second, Luke? Mi- ... someone is calling me." I clicked on Michael's number to answer, not telling Luke who, knowing for some miscellaneous reason Luke and Michael weren't fond of each other.

"Hi Michael."

"Hey Taylor, did you forget about dinner tonight?"

Panicking, I looked at my clock. It read 5:43 pm. Forty minutes after I told Michael I would meet him.

"Shit," I cursed under my breath.

"I'll take that as a yes," Michael trailed off. I could hear noise in the background of his side of the call, meaning he was already at our chosen restaurant. "We can do it another time."

I groaned. "I'm sorry, I-I lost track of time. I'm normally not like this, it must be the time change, or something, I just, I-"

"It's alright. I'll see you at school tomorrow."

With that, he hung up the phone. I cringed at the impression I most likely just gave him.

Huffing in annoyance at myself mostly, I clicked on Luke's number to continue our conversation.

"Hey," I breathed.

"What;s wrong?"

Damn how easy it is to tell I am upset.

"Uh, nothing, just ... nothing."

"I know you're lying." he pushed.

I sighed, becoming even more annoyed. "I said it's nothing, okay. You don't even know me that well, I don't have to tell you anything." I snapped and hung up the phone on Luke just as Michael had done to me.

I chucked my phone across the room at my wall, causing the battery to fall out. I started to cry right then, not from my phone being in two, but from my day that went from bad to terrible in a few instances, and I was the only one to take the blame.

The next morning was stressful for me as I tried to throw together an outfit worthy in America. All of my clothes seemed to look wrong, but I had to wear something. I chose a yellow dress that I admired for it's stretchy material that was comfortable all day, pairing it with white sandals that matched the white hem on the dress. I matched, at least.

I quickly curled a few pieces of my naturally straight hair that hit just below my breasts; I had spent more time than I wanted on choosing what I was going to wear. I snorted at my makeup free face, quickly swiping on red lipstick that I prayed would take people's eyes off of my blemished skin.

Not bothering to eat breakfast, I hopped out of our front door, sighing in relief that the sun was out to warm my exposed skin.

My hands began to sweat as I got closer to the school, not sure if I was ready to handle another day here, replaying the events of yesterday in my head again.
