"Is this what he told you to say? This is his poor excuse at a cover up story? I, having overseen your training from a young age, know of your abilities. As ashamed as I am to admit it, you could not even stand up against a first tier beast. Yet I see second, and even third tier here. The king's soldiers have a rough time against them. If he believes we will accept this?" Fan Ling's hard face showed hints of disgust, "He's underestimating us."
He walked forward with a gentle demeanour, "Fan Rei, whatever that man said to you, you don't have to act strong. I will protect you. Tell grandfather what that man wants. This Grandfather will make sure he can't touch you."
Fan Rei didn't move. She watched him coldly from across the bag of objects. This man plays his part well, never breaking character. This is his stage.
"A-Addor... is... it can't be... Addor?" Fan Rei was nearly in tears behind Addor. "Pup! Stop growling! It's not him! It can't be! After all, he... he raised me! He seems harsh but he's kind! He's always cared for me! Even more than my own father! Addor, tell me this is a lie! Addor, stop this, please!" She was at Addor's feet. If she could, she'd be pulling at her robes. But all she could do was watch all too clearly through tearless eyes as the scene unfolded before her.
"Fan Rei...?" Fan Chen hovered by her side, not knowing what to do but obviously worried.
Addor's face distorted. She didn't bother looking to the ground to hide it and allowed it to be seen; The evil, disgusted smirk on her face.
It was the same face she always had in her past life before going into the kill. This man broke the Code. He deserves to die.
In a flash Addor was standing by his side, an off-white dagger pointed at his neck. "Protect me? You can't protect yourself from a little girl who ashamedly can't take down even a first tier beast." She spoke not to fast and not to slow, but her quiet voice rung out among the hushed courtyard.
Addor had moved too quickly for anyone to understand. Their minds were trying to wrap their mind around how quickly she had moved and didn't have the time to hear her words.
She removed the sharp dagger from his neck. "If I have a problem with someone I will deal with it myself. If I were to stoop so low so as to ask you for protection I might as well cut my heart from my chest myself and hand it over. I know you had your little fox to the job for you, even to follow me when things didn't go as planned. As you see, not dead.
"Don't try and cover it up." Her disgust grew more apparent the more she spoke until it looked like pure revulsion. "Don't make me ask twice."
She might have been two heads shorter than him, but she seemed to have the upper hand. Like the devil overlooking an enemy. She rose over any adversary.
