Today Alena continued with her training. The soldier with her was usually silent unless explaining things to her and he did it in a manner that almost made him seem human. She liked it when he talked, it made the constant silence and angst go away. His words weren't harsh or fake like pierce's, they were real. Even though she knew what he was and what he did, she felt like Barnes was the only human in the whole facility. When Alena sparred it was pretty clear she could never actually hurt the soldier. He was too powerful and she was still just a child. She liked it that way, no matter how many times they burned it into her brain she still wasn't fond of hurting people. It became tough when hydra wanted her to execute and assassinate. At first she tried to refuse but you can guess how well that went, still it seemed Barnes might have put in a word and Pierce came to a comprimise. Her first mission was to be with the Winter Soldier, however it wouldn't be her fufilling the job this time.
Tall street lights lit up the neighborhood road while Barnes was swifted the motorcycle into the nearest shadows. Alena could feel her heart racing as she saw things she had only ever read about. Flowers were much more beautiful than the pictures, and the houses they flew by were much more homey than the facility. "No." she reminded herself they weren't here to sight see. They were here to murder.
The soldier was already emotionless, with his breathing steady and his eyes free of the man that is trapped inside. Alena could feel it as she sat in front of him (she was too small to sit behind).
When they pulled up to the victim's house Alena gapped just at how nice it was. With a balcony and big double doors at the front, the building almost looked heavenly. The soldier hacked through the security system and the doors opened up. Alena immediately saw children's toys all in a pile on the floor. There were farm animals, numbers with smiley faces on them and a huge amount of action figures. One of which was wearing red, white and blue. His shield was the same with a star in the middle of it, like a target. Creeping over the carpet floor she went to take a better look while Barnes was busy. She picked the colourful man up and rubbed his face, for such a small head it was pretty detailed. Soon she heard the soldier's footsteps coming towards her. She knew the plastic man wouldn't fit in her pocket but the shield seemed just right. Before Barnes grabbed her forearm, Alena somehow managed to grab the plastic circle and shove it into the pocket of her pants.
As the two silently went upstairs the young girl once again got distracted. In a secluded room a boy was sleeping soundly in a race car bed. Surrounded by stuffed animals and blankets, he probably hadn't noticed a red lipstick mark in the middle of his forehead.
This was why she thought the world was so unfair. Alena never got goodnight kisses, or a race car bed or even a good night's sleep, but most of all she never received a mother. She knew she had one, (otherwise human biology books would have a serious problem) yet she could never remember anything before hydra. Had she ever even left the facility before tonight? She couldn't think about it long as the soldier tugged on her arm, a little annoyed. Still, the man inside that broken brain knew he didn't want her to see what was coming next.
They walked into the master bedroom where a wife and her husband slept peacefully. They didn't realise it would be forever.
A murder scene would be way too oblivious and troublesome, creating a lot of unwanted attention for Hydra. So, the couple would go in their sleep. The soldier pulled out two syringes each filled with a toxic liquid. He injected both the husband and the wife with it and somehow the needles left no trace of their puncture. The crime was invisible, therefore it didn't exist. As they left the house ever so quietly Alena took another gaze into the sleeping boy's bedroom. He would wake up the next morning and find his parents dead and realise that the kiss on his forehead was the last gift his mother would ever give to him.
Maybe the world wasn't so unfair, Alena never got to know her mother, but at least she wouldn't have to go through the battle of losing one.
