She woke on her familiar mattress that she knew for a fact was inside her cell. She could see all of the letters across the wall, the ones that she traced everyday. No one to ponder about or worry about as the only one she trusted showed up at her door everyday. The soldier. However for some reason today was different, when she sat herself up her eyes darted towards Mr. Pierce. The man in charge."Hello Alena" he said. She nodded shyly in response. "I, have a couple of questions to ask you, just to... test your cognitive learning capabilities." She nodded once more. "Alright, when I say the word family, what does it remind you of?"
"It reminds me of a father, mother, daughter and or son" she said as if it came right out of a dictionary.
"Who is in your family?" he asked cautiously almost afraid of the answer. Alena tilted her head a little confused, she knew she had a mother and a father but that's about it.
"For me to be alive I guess I would need to have both a mother and a father."
"Anyone else?" She furrowed her eyebrows at this. Why was he asking questions she didn't know the answer to? Details on her life weren't written in published books or in the alphabet on her wall. How could she know anything more when those were the only things she had? Well, that and the soldier.
"I-I don't think so, uh, sir?" she stuttered. Pierce, for the first time ever, actually showed human emotion. He smirked at her and gave a little chuckle almost laughing at himself for being so concerned.
"That's good." It was? Usually she had to know everything (although she didn't dislike that part). Still, this was odd. "Well, I'll be elsewhere" with that the smiling businessman strode out of the room, leaving Alena alone with her letters. She felt quite tired and weak still.(she guessed it was from an intense training session she had earlier). so she went to lay back down, yet still, there was something out of the ordinary. She could feel a tiny circular thing underneath her mattress. She couldn't remember putting anything under there and no one had changed her mattress lately, so she felt quite curious. Slowly slipping herself out of bed and placing her two bare feet onto the concrete ground, she knelt down and peaked underneath the bed frame. There, in between two bars, was a target coloured in red, white and blue. Certainly it wasn't supposed to be there, but she didn't feel the need to tell anyone as they never told her anything either. The only time she would ever talk is when they would ask, but they would never need to ask if they never saw it. So, leaving the target where it was she simply walked across the room to her letters. Tracing them as if nothing ever happened.
The next day Pierce once again had entered Alena's cell, although this time he didn't have questions, he had information. He said that within an hour she would have another mission outside the facility, and that all she had to do was shoot the target through a wall. They said that the heat signatures on some special tablet would show her where to aim. He said one last detail that Alena had never received before, the target's name. Nicholas Joseph Fury. Although it didn't do much it was still putting a fact to the man she was about to kill. Maybe it was a test to see if their biological weapon would actually work, or maybe it would fall under emotional circumstances. Alena herself wanted to succeed, even if it meant murdering someone. She had never learned any reason not to.
When they arrived at the location it was in the dead of night and beautiful lights were turned on everywhere. Alena couldn't help but stare at them as she waited for the soldier's signal. What made the moment even more amazing was she could hear the soft hum of music coming from the targeted apartment. She couldn't tell what decade it was from, as she had never really heard music before. Weather it was modern or vintage she just couldn't help but focus on it. That is until the soldier gave her the signal to shoot. Looking at the heat signature tablet that was hooked onto the rifle she had the target in sight. He was sitting in a chair placed in the corner, speaking to another person inside the building. Once she had the perfect aim three shots rang out through the air, interrupting the music for a few brief moments. Suddenly the soldier grabbed her arm, picking up the rifle and they began to flee. The music became softer and softer as they ran. Soon the only sound that was heard was their footsteps on the rooftops. As they jumped down onto another one Alena heard a huge crash and glanced behind her.
A window of the taller building behind them had shattered and through it came a muscular blonde man bearing a shield. A shield that was identical to the one underneath her mattress. He threw it like a frisbee headed straight for Barnes, immediately he spun around grabbing it with his metal arm. He threw it back harder than the blondey had spun it. The soldier then guided Alena off of the building and they were out of sight. The mission was completed.
