Today's the day. It's time to take a gambit.
I'm scared. I'm scared for Julian, I'm scared for his mom, and I'm... I'm terrified for myself. What am I going to do if I lose him..?
"Think of it as just another appointment." Julian said as we walked into the hospital.
"Or as an amazing chance." His mom added.
Right... An amazing normal chance appointment... Of course.
"Just chill out, it's not like you're going in to have people playing with your insides." My boyfriend said. "Especially since you refused to be the surgeon."
"I don't have a medical license." I shot back.
"That's not important." He commented, rolling his eyes.
Julian and his mom went to sign in, and I found us seats in the waiting room. When they came back, Julian's arms were full of paperwork to be completed.
"Do you need help with that?" I asked him.
The boy shook his head. "Legally, I don't think you can help. Plus, you don't know all the stuff needed for these."
"Right..."
"Hey." He called, catching my eye. "It'll be fine. This is the best chance I've got. Chill the fuck out before you start shaking the chair apart."
I didn't even notice I was shaking.
"Ok, just..." Julian hesitated, then pulled himself over and kissed me. "Thank you for getting me this far."
"Damn faggots..." A woman mumbled across the waiting area.
Julian turned and opened his mouth to speak, but out of nowhere his mom stood up.
"Do you want to say that a little louder?" She hissed. "I really hope you're here to get your cold, dead heart fixed, because you seriously need it."
"I don't need anything fixed. The only broken things in this room as sitting next to you." The woman snarled.
Julian's mom took a deep breath before walking right up to the lady, standing within inches of her.
"If you talk about my baby boy like that, so help me god, I will rip you apart. He knows his heart, but I'm not sure you do." She said. "If you'd like, I could rip it out and show you, bitch. Let's see if I can even find anything."
The woman, shocked and scared, glare one last time before walking towards the rest rooms.
"Your mom's a badass." I whispered to Julian.
He nodded, an obvious smile on his face. "She's pretty damn awesome."
"You bet your ass I am." She said, sitting back down. "That lady had it coming. She's lucky that I wasn't in the mood for a fight."
The thought that someone would so fiercely protect Julian made me smile. It was amazing just how loved he was.
"Yo!"
Speaking of which...
"I thought I'd come see if you were already in or not." Henry said, Sasha following behind him. "I'm glad I caught you early."
"It's good to see you buddy." Julian smiled. "You here to make sure I don't get out? Making sure that nobody with beat you at Halo again?"
"You know it. Can't have my K/D ratio getting messed up." The boy replied.
"You know that you're not that good at the game. The number of times you've fallen off cliffs trying to get an advantage isn't even funny."
"Shut up, nerd."
"Make me, dork."
"Oh, both of you just kiss already!" Sasha shouted. "Jeez, I thought your friendship was at its peak gayness with Julian, but seriously I was mistaken."
"It is pretty gay." Julian's mom commented.
"Both of you can shush up." The small boy giggled. "Henry and I will never happen. Ever."
"Wow, that hurts." Henry said, a goofy grin on his face.
"You know it's my primary goal in life to destroy your self esteem."
Everyone was acting pretty lighthearted, laughing and punching shoulders.
"Julian Athens."
Each of us turned up as we heard a nurse call.
"We're ready for you."
Julian stood up, then turned to me. "I need to talk to you before I go."
"You can wait until you get out." I told him, smiling as best as I could.
"Romeo..." He started. "Thanks for getting me this far."
I grinned at him, seeing where this was going. "What are you talking about? That was all y~"
"I'm not done."
Oh. Oops.
Julian took in a deep breath. "Thank you for helping me get this far. I couldn't have done it without you. You were a constant pillar of support and strength that I really needed around."
Something isn't right about his voice...
"I just need you to know that I understand that you didn't need to be with me. You're just a good guy doing good things for a kid that really needed it."
Julian..?
"But this is the end of the line. I'm either all better, or nothing will fix me." He said simply. "No need for you to stick around."
A lead pipe was jammed down my throat. "W-what.?"
"Again, thank you for giving me your time, but you don't need to do that anymore. I'm just going to go through with this, and hopefully it'll be the end of all this crap." Julian said. "And... Don't think if this as a break up. This is more of a thank you for your service. So yeah."
This isn't... This isn't ok... "Y-you're... Breaking up with me..?"
"Yes."
I could feel the hot tears starting to fall and all I could do was stand in place. I'm frozen.
"Again, thank you for giving me your time, it was a nice distraction from everything." He said. "But I don't need it anymore. Goodbye."
And then my world crashed down around me.
