After the sound check was over, we went back to the hotel to get ready for tonight's concert. I took a shower, put on my nice blue and red plaid shirt, and touched up my hair a little bit. I looked at my beard in the mirror and stroked it. It was certainly starting to grow back, I'll probably have to trim it again soon. But other than that, I thought that I looked fine. So I left the hotel room and went down to the lobby where I found everyone else.
"You all ready for the show?" I asked.
We hailed a couple cabs to drive us all to the concert. Kirstie, Scott and I all piled in one and Avi and Kevin took the other. The cab driver asked us we were heading and Scott answered, "We're going to the Radio City Music Hall to perform a concert. We'll totally sneak you in with us!" he joked. We all laughed, including the cab driver.
"No thanks, I've still gotta work tonight but that definitely sounds like fun." he said.
"You're missing out!" Kirstie exclaimed.
After not too long, we made it to the concert venue and went inside to get backstage to do some last minute prep and warm up a bit. I took a water bottle and started drinking so I could keep myself hydrated. Everyone else did the same. After Scott took a sip of his water he began humming to himself which I thought was adorable. He started humming the intro to Dark Horse like he did in our last episode of Superfruit. I slapped my hand against forehead out of embarrassment for him when he started dancing and humming into the water bottle like a microphone.
"Yeah! Y'all know what it is!" Kevin chimed in, pushing up his glasses. Kirstie and I tried to stifle our laughter by covering our mouths. Scott kept the tune going but had a harder time trying not to laugh. "Mitch Grassi and K. Olusola, aha!" He was seriously doing this. "Let's rage."
'Oh what the heck,' I thought. "I knew you were," I sang into my 'mic', "you were gonna come to me--"
"And here you are! But you better choose carefully!" Scott joined, tripping up slightly on the words. He started doing a very sexual dance which, I think, none of us were prepared for.
"'Cause I, I'm capable of anything. Of anything and everything!" I sang back, beginning to Vogue.
"Are you ready for, ready for!" Kirstie jumped in. I grinned at her. "A perfect storm, perfect storm! 'Cause once you're mine, once mine--"
Avi, who usually just looked at us like were crazy, even joined in, "There's no goin' back!" The second he dropped the beat, we all started dancing like idiots, again, even Avi, and it was pretty embarrassing. I'm pretty sure Avi did a slut drop just now. At this point we were just all on the floor laughing with tears running down our faces like children. It was very wild. I don't think there was ever a time where I had this much fun.
After the laughing died down, Scott finally spoke. "We should probably start actually getting ready now."
I nodded and wiped my tears. Kirstie gave me her hand and helped me up. I quickly straightened my hair and we each grabbed our actual microphones. Before we went out on stage, we huddled up together and said a prayer like we always do before a show.
"Amen!" we all said in unison as we concluded the prayer. Promptly after that, we made our way onto the stage, Scott first. I heard the crowd scream our names which, admittedly, shook me up a bit, but I was used to it. In the middle of the stage, we stood with our backs facing the audience for the beginning of Video Killed the Radio Star.
All our songs went down without a hitch but then it was time to sing Valentine. There wouldn't be any choreography since it didn't really for it so we just had to stand next to each other in a line... And I had to stand next to Scott. Before I knew it, they started singing the bell tones. I took a deep breath to calm myself down. I quickly decided to close my eyes, forget about the audience watching me, and think about how much fun I had today. I thought about acting like idiots with my friends, shopping at the mall, and taking a walk with Scott. I felt the corners of my lips curl up into a smile. I could do this.
