Cause you feel like home, you're like a dream come true.
She takes a deep breath as she runs her hands down the mint lace dress and glances around the packed venue. It's been years since she was in a social situation as large as this one and to say it's messing with her anxiety would be an understatement. She spent weeks, months even going back and forth over whether she wanted to come today or not but deep down she knew she couldn't miss his big day. Making her way further into the venue, she can feel her heart pounding as her palms start to get sweaty.
'You okay? You don't have to stay, Demi. I'm sure Nick will understand.' Matthew says placing his hand on her shoulder as she shakes her head.
'I need to at least see him, say congratulations then we can maybe leave, okay?' She replies glancing around the room. Over the past few years she's kept her circle of friends small and avoiding most public appearances.
'I can see him... Why don't you go get yourself a drink? I'll be okay.' She says glancing at Matthew who smiles.
'Okay. I'll be at the bar if you need me.' He replies. She nods her head and slowly begins to walk over to where Nick is standing looking ever so handsome in a black suit.
'Demi! You made it.' Nick says as he spots her walking towards him.
'Of course I made it! I wouldn't miss your wedding for the world, Nick. Congratulations... Where's the lucky lady?' She asks as she hugs him tightly. It's been over one year since she last seen him and so much has changed since then.
'She's over there with Joe.' He replies softly.
'Oh...' She turns and instantly feels her heart drop as she spots him. He was one that she was so sure she was going to marry, the one that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with until three years ago when he let her turn up to their wedding only to find out that he wasn't coming.
'Well why don't you introduce me?' She says.
'R-Really? Demi you don't have to if-' Nick begins and she shakes her head.
'I want to meet her, Nick.' She replies.
****
'Demi, this is Priyanka. Priyanka, this is Demi.' Nick says softly as he introduces the two women and Demi smiles.
'Hi, it's lovely to finally meet you! Congratulations, you've got a good one.' Demi says as Priyanka instantly pulls her into a hug.
'Thank you. I've heard so much about you, all good of course.' Priyanka replies. Demi can't help but glance at Joe as they pull apart from the hug and Nick links his fingers through his new wife's.
'Joe.' Demi says softly and he smiles.
'Hi, Demi... It's good to see you again.' Joe replies.
'Wish I could say the same.' She mumbles.
'How have you been?' Joe asks causing Demi to sigh.
'You don't really care so let's not do small talk.' She replies.
'I do care.' Joe says.
'No you don't. I'm not doing this here, Joe. This is Nick and Priyanka's big day and I'm not ruining it by arguing with you.' Demi replies.
'Maybe you two need to talk.' Nick says quietly.
'No. I came here to support you, to tell you how happy I am for you both but I have absolutely no desire to speak to him. He has had plenty of time to get in contact if he wanted to have a conversation but clearly he didn't so that's that.' Demi replies.
'I didn't want to hurt you.' Joe says and Nick watches as Demi takes a deep breath.
'Hurt me? You destroyed me. Do you know what it's like to spend hours getting ready for your wedding day, to be so happy to finally be marrying the man of your dreams, to go on the journey from your hotel to the venue telling your dad how much you love the man you're about to marry. Do you know what it's like to do all that and then have the best man tell you that the man you're marry isn't going to turn up? Do you know what the feels like because I do. It feels like someone has just ripped your heart out. It feels like the entire world is watching as your life falls apart. I stood at the bottom of that aisle watching as my dad had to tell all our guests that you weren't coming. I loved you, Joe. I loved you more than I have ever loved anyone and now I hate you more than I thought possible. I will be so happy if I never see you again, Joe.' She says.
