Chapter Five·When We Make It
No one had gone out recently. They had enough food and water. But Aaron felt something was off.
Alexander had returned after all this time and was a zombie. Who's to say he won't snap? That he won't attack? "You alright, babe?" Angelica asked rubbing her eyes tiredly. "Just thinking..." "It's 2 AM. What in the world could you be thinking about?" "Isn't it odd?" Angelica looked at Aaron before entering and closing the door behind her. "What do you mean?" "Hamilton comes back without any warning and everyone is acting like everything is normal? We are running for our lives. The guy caused this whole thing!" "So, maybe he can fix it. Aaron, stop questioning everything-" "Why?" Angelica looked at her boyfriend annoyed.
"What?" "Why? Why would he try to save us when we left him behind? More importantly, there is NOTHING he could use to save the world. He would have to travel-" "Aaron! Your speaking nonsense. I know there is no place that he could-other than the clock tower-but maybe he really is planning on saving us. Think about that instead of if he might betray us." Burr thought for a second. The clock tower. "Where did they find Alex?" "On 181st. Why?"
The tower wasn't too far from there. "No reason. I'll...I'll stop thinking about this." Aaron said making her smile. "Thank you." She walked over and kissed Burr on the cheek. "Goodnight- er, good morning?" She asked with a chuckle before leaving his room to go to her room, which she shared with the girls.
Aaron waited until he heard the click before he pulled down the stairs that led to the attic. He slowly walked up the stairs and went to the window at the very end of the hall. No one but him and Thomas knew about this place. He looked around until he spotted it. It was at a very far distance but he could see it. The lights were turned on and he could see a shadow moving. What if he is planning on saving us? Aaron questioned and watched the shadows movement.
How would he save the world? The person stopped at another window which Aaron saw clearly and looked up at the moon before heading back to work. He moved to the next window and saw there were more zombies on this side. Watching the movements, he saw the machine.
It was rather large and rusty but it was obvious it still worked. The only thing he could see from the shadow was the eyes. One was all black while the other was bright and clear. "What are you planning?" He whispered before looking up at the moon. Waxing gibbous was the shape of it. Faded but you could tell there would soon be a full moon. He grabbed a journal and began writing.
I may not live to see our glory.
The clock tower is a place we should be checking out. There is someone, or something, out there, watching. They were working on a machine that could do one of two things. Destroy the world, or save it. There is no telling what might happen or who we might lose. But please, don't let Angie get hurt. That woman is a saint(other than the fact she once bitch slapped Jefferson) ...she doesn't deserve to be hurt for anything.
Please...save her.
Aaron felt a wave of tiredness hit him and he soon went back to his room, pushing the stairs backup and closing the hatch, before falling asleep.
