When You Run 2

Today was the day.

"You ready Spooker?"

The boy adjusted his pink beanie and smiled.

"Ready as I'll ever be." he muttered

"Good."

"Are you ready Colon?"

Colon showed a bright, hopeful smile.

"Yeah. I sure am!"

"Then let's do this!"

Colon held Spookers hand tightly.

Spooker faltered a bit.

"What's wrong?"

"I.. If the my catch me.. Again.. They will kill me."

Colon nodded and kissed his forehead. "Then let's make sure we don't get caught." his brown eyes met Spookers green ones. "And if we do..I will do what I can to protect you."

Spooker kissed his cheek. "Thank you."

"Maybe when we get out of here we can kiss for real."

Spooker blushed. "Hopefully."

They held hands tightly as they walked outside.

"Ready?"

"Ready!"

The two nodded at each other and looked out.

They began running.

Once again, Spooker felt the dry sand hit his feet. He wasn't going to give up this time.

They both darted out of the hut they were in. They ran across the dry dirt, ignoring the pain in their feet.

They heard the guards behind them once again, yelling at them to stop.

Spookers heart was beating faster then before. He knew this was his last chance. If they caught him this time.. That would be the end of him.

This only made him more determined.

Pretty soon the gates were in sight again. They saw the forest.

Colon looked over to Spooker, smiling at him.

Spooker blushed and nodded back.

They ran faster.

Their hearts beating so quickly. Their blood pumping, the adrenaline running through their veins. Smiles on their faces and blood on their feet from running so fast.

They didn't care because they were going to make it.

But then a shout. One of the guards told them to lock the gates.

Spooker looked at Colon, biting his lip.

Colon frowned. He picked up Spooker and ran quicker.

Just as they were about to reach the gate, they jumped.

The gate slammed shut.

The both layed on the ground. They couldn't stop running there.

Colon sprang up and pulled Spooker along. They both ran deeper into the woods and climbed into a tree. Colon helped Spooker up the branches and they both sat with their feet dangling.

They watched as the guards ran underneath them. Holding their breaths, they gripped each others hands as they watched.

The guards went back.

They both laughed in relief as they noticed something.

They got free. They were finally free!

"I did it, mom!" Spooker looked up at the sky.

Colon leaned closer to him. "Spooker.."

He looked over. "Yeah?"

"I said I would do something.. Can I.. Kiss you?"

Spooker blushed and nodded. "Go ahead. We are free to do what we want now!"

They both leaned closer to each other and shared a small, innocent kiss.
