(Picture is Darius)
Variel POVTurns out Michelle didn't notice Tyler staring at me. But that other girl, Lora did. As her and I walk to Design, which turns out we have together, she begins to squeal with excitement as soon as we were out of sight of the barn. "Oh, my gosh. Tyler totally likes you!" I sigh, I seem to be doing that a lot today.
"Ummm I'm not sure if that is the case--" Lora cuts me off.
"But you can't go out with him he is--" Then it was my turn to cut her off.
"Michelle's ex. I know Lora, Miley told me. Plus I'm not interested in going out right now. I need to focus on my study. So if he were to ask me out I would say no."
Lora stops talking for a moment, taking in what I just said. Too bad the silence didn't last over a couple seconds.
"So, have you done Design before Variel?" She asks. I begin to wonder what the heck is up with this girl but I hold back the urge to snap.
"Yes Lora. I have been doing Design since year 9." I reply with another sigh as we take our seats in the back.
"Oh." Was her reply.
We grab out our art pencils and books as the teacher, Miss Hayes asks us to put our books away. We give her a confused look but we obey. Next she asks us to make a circle with the desks. Oh no, she is going to make us all introduce ourselves I bet.
And she did.
She started, saying her name, favorite color and food before nodding towards the red haired girl beside her.
"Um my name is Rosie, my favorite color is red and food would be pizza."
Next was a blonde boy then another boy, and it kept going around the circle, but I was barely listening.
"Well, my name is Darius."
My head shot up. It was a dark haired boy, with dark eyes and a pale perfect complexion. I don't even know why I looked up. Just something in his voice was rather... Different.
"And as for colors, it would probably be black, but seeing as that is not technically a color, I guess I would have to go with.. indigo. As for food, whatever is available."
The next boy started talking but I barley heard him. My eyes were fixed on only one thing, Darius.
I lean to Lora, my eyes still on Darius, who was now looking at the floor, his eyes distracted by something.
"Who is that?"
Lora followed my gaze and rolled her eyes when she saw who I was staring at. "Darius Montague. But forget it honey. He may not seem like it but he is dangerous." I turn to her, confused. "What do you mean? Like a player?" She shakes her head. "No, Variel. I mean dangerous. Stay away from him, nothing good will come from it. Trust me." I know what Lora says is meant to steer me away from Darius, but in truth, it is just making me more curious.
"What do you mean?" I ask again. Her posture changes and her eyes widen with, fear?
"Last year, there was a girl, Angeline, who had a massive crush on Darius. So big the whole school practically knew about it. She began to interact with him. You know, following him, talking to him, hanging out with him. Next thing you know she was dead."
My heart stops. Dead. "What? Why would you think it was Darius?"
Lora turns to me and I see the fear that seems to take over her gaze. "He was the one that found her Variel. In an alleyway. And that is too much of a coincidence. The police thought so as well. They questioned him, but it said in the paper that he told them he was with her in town and they parted ways. Then he said he forgot something and he went back to find it, only to find her..."
I couldn't bear to hear anymore so I turned back to the circle to try listen to the people who were speaking. And as my turn was a couple people away, I felt myself being watched.
And right then, I knew who it was.
I slowly moved my gaze and it came to meet another.
Cold, black eyes stared at me. And those eyes belonged to Darius Montague.
