The lyrics come from First Burn, by the way.

Tears fell down Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton's face, the woman clutching the Reynolds Pamphlet, a pamphlet describing how her husband cheated on her with her own best friend! However, Eliza knew that Maria had no choice. Maria's husband left her with her young daughter, Susan. He then came back, threatening her until she slept with Alexander. The day that the Pamphlet came out, Maria ran to Eliza's home, sobbing about what had happened. She was furious with the both of them, but Alexander had the power to say no. He didn't.

"Betsy? Honey? I.. I am so sorry," came a soft voice from the doorway to the living room. Elizabeth said nothing, staring at the small fire that brought her a comforting warmth. All of the letters her husband had written to her were in two tiny boxes, both peacefully laying on either sides of her.

Elizabeth had no intention of holding back when yelling at Alexander, for the children were at their grandfather's home. "I saved every letter you wrote me, Alexander." she whispered softly, standing from the chair she sat on. Alexander didn't say a word, allowing her to speak for once. "From the moment I saw you I knew you were mine," she gasped out, not realizing how hard it was to speak to him. The pamphlet fell from her hands, scattering on the floor. "You said you were mine.. I thought you were mine."

Alexander opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. For someone who wrote like his life depended on it, he was certainly speechless now, shame evident on his face. "Do you know what Angelica said when I told her what you had done? She said: 'You've married an Icarus. He has flown too close to the sun.'"

Her husband watched her longingly, taking a step towards her. "Don't!" she screamed, causing her husband to jump back. She never rose her voice before, being too sweet to. Elizabeth took a deep breath, "Take another step in my direction. I can't be trusted around you!"

"Listen, Eliza.. I just-" His voice broke as he spoke.

"Don't think you can talk your way into my arms! Into my arms again, Alexander!" Elizabeth turned away, a broken sob escaping her lips, sorrow engulfing her before she turned back. Her eyes were full of rage and pity for this poor man who dared to do this to her, to Maria! "I'm burning the letters you wrote me," she hissed. Alexander let out a tiny whimper as he stepped closer.

Elizabeth waved her hand over to the corner casually. "You can stand over there if you want. I don't know who you really are, Alexander.. I have so much to learn, I suppose. I've re-read all of your letters." Alexander tried speaking again, moving closer. "And I'm watching them burn."

Eliza grabbed about four or five letters from the box and tossed them into the fire, which roared and gave off more heat. Alexander yelled in anguish as Elizabeth threw more into the fire before turning around and glaring daggers at him. She took a few seconds to look at her husband, tears now falling from both of their faces. A small sob overtook her for a second as their wedding flashed into her head, followed by such happy memories.

Elizabeth shook her head, grabbing onto the chair for comfort and support as her knees buckled from under her. "You published the letters she wrote you," she finally mumbled out. Her thoughts flashed to her friend, broken and sobbing. Her sadness ebbed away as disgust and frustration started to fuel her. "You told the whole world how you brought my friend into our bed! In clearing your name, Alexander Hamilton, you have ruined our lives!"

Alexander looked angry, his face turning red. "It's not my damn fault that Jefferson, Madison, and Burr confronted me! Damn it, Elizabeth what is wrong with you?!" He took a few steps closer, about to raise his hand to hit Elizabeth in a blind rage.

The woman rolled her eyes, grabbing Alexander's hands and pushing him away from her. "Heaven forbid someone whispers that you're a part of some scheme," she screamed at the man who was about to hit her, her voice breaking as she collapsed onto the floor. Her head jolted up, and she was clearly pissed. She was pissed, frustrated, grieving, and sad. But no! Alexander was the victim! No one cares how Elizabeth feels. Not anymore.

Not wanting to seem weak in front of her husband, Eliza stood up, stomping towards him. "Your enemy whispers so you have to scream!" Alexander shook, covering his ears and dropping onto the floor when she said that. Elizabeth wanted to feel sorry, but just felt pity. She didn't even know if she loved him anymore. Anger overtook her as she kneeled down next to Alexander. "I know about whispers, Alexander. I know how you look at my sisters!"

"I don't love them, honey. I- I love you!" Alexander pleaded. He sniffled, looking down. "Peggy is so sick now.."

Elizabeth scoffed, getting up once more. Alexander reached out to grab her sleeve desperately. "Don't," she growled, yanking her arm away from him. "I'm not naive. I have seen women around you, Alexander." Alexander sighed, not making any movements. He hung his head in shame.

"Don't think I don't see how they fall for your damn charms," she chuckled out dryly. "All of your charms.." Elizabeth walked over to a stack of letters, haphazardly tossing a few in. Alexander let out a whine of anguish again, making Eliza chuckle. "I'm erasing myself from the narrative. Let everyone around us wonder how I reacted when you, Alexander, broke my heart. You've thrown our love away!" she screamed, watching as Alexander flinched. He was either broken, or faking it. "You've thrown it all away. Stand back, watch it burn. Watch what you've done," Eliza hissed, voice cracking again. She grabbed both boxes of letters, throwing them into the fire, a few papers managing to drift away as the rest burned.

The fire roared and crackled with the addition of paper. Eliza grabbed her coat, walking over to the door. Alexander looked at her helplessly. "If you thought you were mine.." Eliza trailed off, her glare hardening. "Don't."

Elizabeth sprinted to her friend's home, tears flying down her face. Sobs shook her body as she knocked on the door frantically. "Maria! Please let me in," she screamed. She was helpless again, but not how she hoped.

Maria answered it immediately, wrapping Eliza in a hug as the woman broke down. "Susan sweetie? Can you please shut the door? This is Mrs. Elizabeth Hamilton, my best friend, okay?" Maria said softly, looking at her young daughter with pleading eyes. The young girl nodded, closing the door.

"I'm going to bed, Mama. Make sure Mrs. Elizabeth is okay, okay?" Susan asked her mother, eyes filled with concern. Maria laughed softly to herself, nodding.

"Oh Eliza, oh sweetheart. It's okay.. I mean, it isn't. It's all my fault. I'm so sorry, Betsy," Maria whispered, gently brushing her fingers through Eliza's soft hair. Slow tears soon started to cascade down her cheeks, the woman tightening her grip.

"It's not your fault, Maria. James did that to you.. that pig! You divorced him, though, right?" Eliza whimpered, looking at her friend in tears.

"Aaron Burr is my lawyer in that. He's helping me. God, I am so sorry still!"

Elizabeth smiled weakly at her friend, "Mr. Burr is a good man, as well as a lawyer. You'll be away from him  in no time. It was James' and Alexander's faults, Maria. James forced you and.. Alexander never said no. I'm not even sure if I love him anymore. Maybe it was just a petty crush," Eliza whispered to herself, burying her face in Maria's bosom.

Maria sighed, holding her friend close. The two stayed together and cried, Eliza soon falling asleep. Maria's face went red, leaning down and kissing Elizabeth on the cheek. "I love you, Elizabeth Schuyler.." she whispered, closing her eyes.

Right before Maria was swept away into her slumber, she swore she could've heard a tiny voice saying "I love you too, Maria Lewis."
