When I got to school I made my way to the outside courtyard of the lunchroom. There was a table, smaller than all the other ones that sat by itself underneath a tree that never blossomed and always looked dead. No one was sitting there yet. I sat down in my usual seat and prayed that Beth would show up today. I hated the days where I would sit by myself all morning as other students walked by with their friends, laughing and joking. Both of which I never understood. It's too damn early for that shit. I pulled out a book and began reading.

"What're you reading Sasha?" I looked up and Tyrese Williams stared back at me. He was the equivalent definition of tall, dark, and handsome.

"Uh... it's called Iron King." I said slowly. Why was one of the most popular guys in school and captain of the basketball team, talking to me?

"Cool. Well I had a favor to ask you." He said with a big smile as he sat down.

"Yeah?" I said unsure and blushing from the close proximity we were in as I realized how close he sat down next to me.

"Did you do that huge chapter study guide for chemistry?" He replied. I stared at him for a moment. Of course that is why youre talking to me. I sarcastically laughed quietly to myself. "What's so funny?" He asked with a smile.

"The study guide that we have had to do a section in every night for the past semester?" I asked doubtfully hoping he didnt mean the entire packet.

"Yeah that one, I've been really busy with basketball." He said quietly as he looked down.

"That's fine." I said slowly. I didnt want him feeling bad. "What page do you need?" I asked as I opened my backpack and pulled out my chemistry binder.

"How about you just let me borrow it and I will meet you before third period to give it to you and we can walk to class together?" He asked me, his brown eyes staring into mine.

"Uh, sure." I said as I handed him the packet.

"Thanks Sasha" He said with a wink as he got up. He waved and I watched him walk across the courtyard to his friends table where he sat down. They all high fived and began furiously copying my packet. I sighed. Well, whatever at least he's going to walk me to class.

I opened my book and began reading. Time moved way too quickly as I read, the bell for first period rang in what felt like minutes. I put my book down and looked around only to sigh as I didnt see Bethany anywhere. She wasn't here today. Gathering my things I made my way towards J-Hall where my first period Intro to Foriegn Language Class awaited me two doors to the left after entering the building.

A line awaited outside and Ms. Rubios stood at the door questioning each student. She would whisper something in their ear and then they would do the same back to her, some would get a smile and would enter the classroom and some would get a pointed finger to the back of the line. Some of the students in the line began whispering amongest themselves, Ms. Rubios narrowed eyes made them silent.

It was my turn, she leaned in and whispered into my ear "Tu sei una ragazza." I thought to myself for a moment, it translated to "You are a girl" in Italian. She awaited my response with an arched brow. I leaned in and whispered, "Tu sei una donna", meaning "You are a woman".

She smiled and I walked into the classroom where the people who answered her correctly sat in their seats quietly with smiles on their faces.

I sat down in my assigned seat as the class began to pour in. I grabbed out the study guide we had been given and I began filling out the last three questions I didnt do the night before.
