Horrible Person

Hennessy looked at the bottom of her computer screen, 4:36 a.m. She let out a yawn, signaling the waitress to come back to her table for the fourth time this morning. She's been awake since 1:00 a.m. She couldn't help but find herself at Pop's Chock' lit shop every other night from the lack of sleep.

"You know Hennessy, I'm concerned for your health." Hermione looked into her cold eyes. "Maybe you should go home and try to get some sleep?" She added, pouring the coffee in the empty mug. Hennessy laughed to herself at the waitress's comment.

"I don't sleep... not mentally at least." She said as she turned her attention back to her computer and slumped back into her seat. Hermione walked back behind the counter and away at her business. Once she finished sipping the last bit of the black, bitter coffee and decided it was time to leave. She packed up her computer and patterned notebooks she had used to write her thoughts down. The sound of the bell at the top of the door rang violently as she opened it. The cool August air nipped at her nose as she toured the streets over her hometown. Normally, she would glance over her shoulder to see if someone was following her because of how she was taught to not trust anyone, not this time. She felt numb, she had already felt the worse, and nothing could hurt her now.

On her way home, she crossed Sweet Water and stood on the bridge. She leaned against the railing and thought to herself. She thought about how her life could've been better. Her mother had left only a few weeks after her father had died. Before he died, her mother had discovered he'd been secretly working for the Serpents. Her dad was a good man, that's why he joined in the first place. He wanted to protect his family at all costs; she missed him because of that. How he'd go to the ends of the earth for her. That's why she'd question her mother. With each day that passed and she still wasn't there, she grew angrier. Hennessy never experienced such hatred for someone in her life and she didn't know how to handle it. The loneliness and rage she felt were indescribable, but it's not like anyone would've listened to her anyway.

She quickly realized it was almost time for her brothers to wake up, 5:30 a.m. she held her bag close as she quickly paced down the dark roads. She wondered why there weren't many street lights in this town, but then again nothing ever happens here. When she arrived, she tiptoed inside and quietly shut the door behind her, being sure not to wake her brother. She danced around the darkened room, trying not to bump into any furniture. Sadly, it was already too late. Before she could make it out of the living room, she heard a loud voice boom throughout the apartment. "Where were you?" The voice belonging to her eldest brother, Grayson, hung in the room. He flipped on the lights closest to the hallway. He had an angered expression on his face that made Hennessy's heart sink deep into her stomach.

"I was a Pop's getting breakfast." She tried to get him off her back. She clenched her jaw and tried not to seem suspicious, but there was no way around this one. Sneaking out almost every day has caught up with her, and she was definite that he knew.
