Hush

That night you stayed in the tent again. Sleep eluded you. You wonder what Negan was going to do to Simon when he tells him that he knows everything. Would he scorch his face with a hot iron? You had seen one of his lieutenants with a the obvious sign of having met that fate. Half of his face was a twisted deformity. You wonder what he had done. You hope at the very least it was a punishment that would scare him as much as you had been scared.
And then of course you were worried about yourself. You had only been here for four days and  had moved up the ranks in the Sanctuary quickly. Maybe Negan did it because he felt bad about what he had done to you out in the forest. Or was it because he just liked to find different ways to amuse himself? You had to believe that it was because he was starting to trust you. It was the only thing you wanted to believe.
You must have drifted off because before you knew it the baking heat of the morning sun made your tent unbearable. You crawl out and head over towards the kitchen for water and coffee if you had enough points left but you are quickly intercepted by the officer with scar on his face.
"I'm Dwight and I'm here to bring you upstairs." He tells you.
"I'd like to have breakfast first if I can." You respond nicely.
Dwight smiles at you.
"It past noon but you can grab your lunch upstairs. The food is better up there anyway."
You're shocked. You haven't slept that late in ages. You thought for sure they would have had you up at the ass crack of dawn. Your stomach sinks when a slow realization creeps over you.

"What floor?" You ask, not sure if you want to know the answer.
"Second floor. You're moving up."
You knew instantly. It was the wives floor. Dwight didn't have to tell you that. What other job in the Sanctuary would allow you to sleep as late as you want? If you could have run and gotten away with it, you would have done right then. But there was no escape and you had to suck it up again. How long will this trial last?
When you reach the second level he guides you down the long hallway. As you pass by an open door, you catch a glimpse of the women. They are all clad in short black dresses and you crinkle your nose. He would make them wear that.

"Showers are at the end of the hall. When you're done Mia will show you where you'll be." Dwight informs you, handing you a bag filled with shampoos and soaps. "Someone will bring you lunch."

You can honestly say the shower was wonderful. The toiletries you were given were hard to come by and smelled amazing. Even the towels were luxurious. You hadn't seen anything like this in over a year. When you exit the bathroom wrapped in your towel, Mia is there to greet you.  She's a tall, slender brunette with legs that went on forever in her short dress. She's also very young. She smiles shyly.

"You must be the new wife." She says.

You notice she looked you over quickly. There was no judgement on her face although you feel self conscious.

"I am not a wife."

Your tone was a little harsher than you intended and you felt bad. She literally flinched.

"Then what are you doing here?"

Her voice was a peep.

"I'm sorry. You should ask your husband."

She shrugs her shoulders and motions for you to follow her. Entering their chamber, you feel all eyes on you. You try not to seem to curious about them although you really were. What kind of woman would agree to become part of a harem? It had to go above and beyond soft towels and coconut shampoo.

The bedroom was simply a very large room off of the lounging area that housed seven single beds. Mia brings you over to the one that had been designated just for you. The blankets were plush and the sheets were clean. Taking a seat at the foot, you begin towel drying your hair. Another wife comes in and lays a dress on the duvet. It was a deep purple, velveteen cocktail dress. It was completely inappropriate for the heat of summer and it made you stand out like a sore thumb amongst the ladies in black.
