 Third Person POV

Min Dae crawls her way down the hallway, staying close to the cold wall. She shakes violently, fearing the worst would befall her. At any moment a Japanese terrorist could barrel down the hall and slice her in half. The palace was already swarmed when them, so she feels her escape is unlikely.

But she will not give up. Her life is unimportant to the Japanese, but the heir is different. He is the only thing that keeps her small body moving. As long as she is still breathing, Min Dae will devote herself to protecting that child.

She sees the door just in front of her. Just a little farther, she will be out of the Queen's quarters. Min Dae freezes as voices catch her attention. They are speaking Japanese.

Min Dae quickly stands to her feet, she must find a room to hide in. But it was already too late. The door in front of her slides open to reveal three men in dark clothes. Their eyes lock on her, their prey.

A dirty hand pulls at the back of her dress. The man's grip was tight, she can get away. The way they look at her makes her sick, but more importantly, terrified. "You can't run," he says in Korean.

In a mere second her back hits the hard wooden floor and she screams out of shock. Min Dae tries to kick at the man's stomach but the other two restrain her legs.

"Please let me go! Let me go!" The young girl wails. A punch in the face causes her to shut up.

The cold air hits her now bare stomach. But there's something else. Blood drips onto her milky skin, sending shivers own her spine. The Japanese man on top of her tumbles over to his side as he screams in agony. Min Dae looks up to see a familiar person as he wields a sword against her attackers.

"RUN MIN DAE!" Taehyung screams at her, panic in his eyes.

Blood rushes to her head as she realizes she is saved. Though her body still shakes, Min Dae staggers out of the building. The man who was flat on the ground claws at her leg, making her lose balance and dive into the dirt. Without looking back, she makes her arms drag her from the ground and she runs. But she can't help but feel worried that her savior may have gave himself a death sentence.

Thankfully, the King's quarters were not overrun by intruders just yet. Min Dae slips into the building undetected and rushes towards Hye-Rin's room, where the baby lays sound asleep. Two guards are stationed in front of the door.

"The Japanese are attacking!" She yells at them. They look alarmed by her words, but also by her dirty and bloody dress. "This is no time to be just standing around!"

"You stay here, I'll go to the king." One of the men say and runs the other direction.

Min Dae enters the room hastily and clutches the heir into her arms. "You're safe. You're safe." She repeats to him and herself.

October 8th, 1895. This would be the day I remember for the rest of my life.

Two men stand in front as the other three follow us from behind. All of us girls hung close to each other. I can feel the desperation within me as sweat beads on my forehead. We all walked in swift, fast strokes as we fought off the overbearing urge to run for our lives and lose our minds. Neither one of us had the courage to leave the line because in that moment we were were all afraid of the glint of the Japanese soldiers swords.

I felt as though I was a walking corpse as I trudge through each step. My mind drifts to my infant son and with every hope I cling on to, I pray that Min Dae was keeping my son alive and well. I also know that the emperor should have been thrown into a fort of protection by the royal guards so the only real target left in the palace is the queen. I also know that the queen has to survive the night no matter what.
