I stared ahead of me while secretly looking at Rebecca who looked just as nervous as I felt, of course I don’t show it, but I still felt it.
“Guys, this is Celia, she’s going to hang out with us today.” Rebecca said nervously while smiling up at me.
I couldn’t help but smile as I looked at her, her friends on the other hand were speechless and couldn’t even look at me. I almost frowned at the reaction people have when I am around them, I am human, even someone like me would like friends.
“Well hello!” a short girl with blond hair said to me. She had purple streaks in her hair.
I chuckled as I extended my hand to her, “Hello”
She shook my hand and smiled at me. “I'm Melody” she then turned to the rest of the group. “What is wrong with you guys, she might be royalty but she’s also just a girl,. Be nice, now get your ass’s up and greet her.”
I smiled at that. She seems to have a fierce personality.
“Hi” another girl said while standing up. I smiled at her as I looked towards Rebecca.
She caught on and started talking.
“That’s Kelly, the red haired guy is Jimmy, and the guy with the black hair is Anthony.” She said while smiling.
And I nodded and said hi to the rest of the group, they chorused my greeting.
I sat down on a chair, we were sitting down at the library. I’ve been inside the library hundreds of time with its high bookshelves and thousands of interesting books. I found this place to be somewhat of a sanctuary for me while at school. I couldn’t find peace and quiet here, without ever really being alone.
But I had never been inside the library during lunch, and the word quiet just did not describe it any more. There were a lot of people sitting on all of the reading tables, and on the computers. Some had food and were eating, while other were playing cards. It seemed like a foreign place to me.
“So, what has brought the Ice Queen to our table?” the guy Anthony asked me with a scowl.
I wanted to frown and slump in my chair, but I put a small smile on my lips.
“Rebecca and I are friends, she invited me to hang out.” I said quietly.
Anthony continued to scowl. “Well I didn’t even know you had friends.”
I turned to look at him, unable to hide the frown on my lips, but I didn’t even have to say anything.
“Shut up Anthony.” I turned to look at Rebecca with a scowl on her face, her cheeks tinted a bright pink color. “Leave her alone, you cannot judge someone whom you do not know so stop being mean.”
That’s also when melody hit him on the back of the head.
I couldn’t help but smile, no one has ever stood up for me. People have always made fun of me, but this is the first time anyone did anything about it.
“Well I think it’s cool that she’s hanging out with us.” The red haired kid jimmy said while smiling at me.
I couldn’t help but giggle. “Thanks” I said while smiling at him.
He turned red in a heartbeat it kind of surprised me, but I thought it was adorable.
That’s when I noticed Anthony and Rebecca talking, she looked angry while he looked… like he was in awe of her. Like he was infatuated by her, he looked up to her.
He likes her.
I couldn’t help but feel a little sad, knowing that he had a bigger chance with her because he’s a guy. While I'm a girl, and I don’t even know her sexuality, or anything about her.
That thought alone made me sad.
“Cheer up, she doesn’t like him anyways.” I heard Melody say.
I turned to her with a confused look on my face. “Huh?” I said while looking at her like she was crazy.
“She only thinks of him as a friend, although…” she said while tapping her finger to her chin. “That’s never stopped him from asking her out, but it doesn’t matter how hard he tries, she doesn’t like him.”
I coughed trying to hide my nervousness. “And why are you telling me.” I said nervously.
“You like her, don’t you? I mean that’s then reason you’re hanging out with her. And the reason your risking your popularity, right?” she said while smiling at me.
That’s when I noticed that almost everyone in the library was looking at me, some completely full out staring, while others were trying to hide it. As if they were just seeing what I would do next.
I felt like some sort of science experiment at that moment.
“I’m not popular.” I said while keeping a straight face. “Having no friends, having no one to talk to. That’s not popularity.” I said with disdain.
She smiled as he placed her hand on my shoulder. “Your popular, everyone looks up to you. Everyone likes you, the only problem is that no one thinks that they are worthy of you.”
I looked down at my hands, twiddling my thumbs, nervously.
“It’s ok to like her, she’s an amazing person. Sweet, sympathetic, bubbly, and she knows how to make almost anyone smile.” Melody continued.
I continued to look down at my thumbs though. “I’m engaged…” I said with a soft whimper. “To her brother.”
Melody removed her hand from my shoulder in shock. “You’re the unlucky girl who got stuck with that position.” She said sympathetically.
I nodded. “sadly.” I said while finally looking up from my thumbs just to come eye to eye with Rebecca, she had a worried look on her eyes.
I smiled at her, trying to ease her worry but I could tell that she could look right through me. That thought made me feel good.
“Well, when’s the wedding. You still have time to try and seduce Rebecca.” She said with a haughty tone.
I chuckled. “I don’t want to seduce her… I want to be with her.” I said while smiling.
She smiled down at me. “You know, gay marriage is legal here right?” she said while smirking at me.
“It confuses me how your completely for this.” I said while cocking my head to the side as I looked up at her.
She smiled down at me. “I've got a secret.
It's on the tip of my tongue,
it's on the back of my lungs.
And I'm gonna keep it.
I know something you don't know.” She said in a low tone.I gave her another confused look before she said. “It’s a song, and let’s just say, I'm going to help you.”
