“Well, what kinds of things does she like?” I asked melody while eating the salad that was sitting right in front of me.
She looked around the room. “Well, she likes flowers, books. The normal things nerds like.” She said with a shrug.
I chuckled. “Okay, just tell me random facts about her.” She smiled as she looked at me, like she completely understood me.
“She loves the color green, and she’s vegetarian although she sometimes eats fried chicken. She says it’s her weakness. She liked chocolate, and ice cream. Oh, and she loves walking at the park. She loves being outside.” She said with so much enthusiasm, it made me a little worried.
“Thanks for telling me, but I'm just wondering… do you like her?’ I asked nervously, hoping like hell that the answer to the question would be no. but looking at her, she could pass as a lesbian because of how male-ish she is.
Melody laughed at my statement. “No dude, I don’t like her. There’s someone else I'm interested in.” she said bashfully.
I smiled. “A girl?”
She blushed as I said it. “Yea…”
I chuckled. “It’s nothing to be nervous or embarrassed about. Its normal.” I said while smiling.
She smiled. “I know, but I don’t think I would ever be able to get this girl because she already likes someone.” She said sadly.
I smiled. “And is this person she likes is a girl?” I asked
She looked up at me and smiled. “Yes, she is. But she’s perfect. I can’t find a single thing wrong with her. I mean I used to think she was a bitch because of how she thought she was all high and mighty but now…”
“Whoa, is it me?” I said while interrupting her.
She looked sad again. “Yea, Karina likes you.”
I looked down at my salad. Karina
Do I even know anyone by the name of Karina?
“You saved her once from getting bullied last year, after that you’re all she could talk about…” Melody said while eating her food, staring at it and not looking at me.
“Well, I can gladly say that I do not like this girl, I like Rebecca and that hasn’t changed in some years and I don’t think it will.” I said happily
She smiled. “That’s good to hear, but if for some weird reason you change your mind… I will have you know…” she said with a serious tone as she glared at me. “I will have to kill you.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at just how threatening she sounded. “Don’t worry, I'm not interested in her.” I said while smiling, “She’s all yours. But if there’s anything I can do to help, just tell me.”
She smiled. “I think I will.” She said happily.
She nodded as she continued eating her food, that’s when it hit me.
Karina, I had met her once, there’s only one Karina I know that I defended. After that she followed me around like a lost puppy, but she didn’t talk to me, she simply followed me.
Every now and then she says hi to me, she greets me. But I didn’t think it would be anything else.
She’s cute though. Shorter than me with chocolate brown hair and soft brown eyes. Adorable in my eyes, not someone I would date though. Maybe because I am way too interested in Rebecca.
“Well anyways, Becca loves to hang out at the library after school. We usually hang out together, the whole group, after school if you want to join us tomorrow.” Melody said while smiling.
I nodded. “About her sexuality… is she… you know, interested in girls?” I asked her nervously.
She looked down at her food again. “You know, she doesn’t talk much about herself, she’s fairly quiet when it comes to her personal life. But becomes completely chatty when it has to do with someone else’s life.” She said with a sad tone, maybe it’s because she doesn’t know as much as she thought she knew about her best friend.
“I can tell you though that she has a crush on someone, who, I do not know. But she does. That and she reject almost everyone. She has never gotten with anyone. Don’t get me wrong, she just hasn’t dated in the past three years since freshman year… but she hasn’t specifically said anything about liking either sex.” She said while shrugging.
I nodded quietly. “Well this has helped a lot.” I said while smiling. “Thanks”
She smiled as well. “No problem, but I should be going home now, I have things to do.” She said while standing up.
I nodded and followed her. “Ok, thanks for everything.” I said while walking out the door, after her.
She nodded. “No problem, just remember. When the time comes you’re going to help me as well.” She said while walking away.
I nodded. “Ok.” I said while walking away from her.
I walked home pretty slowly, when I got there I saw my mother with a scowl on her face. I scowled. “What now” I said while glaring at her.
She gasped. “Honestly Celia, what is wrong with you, you haven’t been acting yourself lately.” She said while staring at me disapprovingly.
I sighed, maybe this is the real me.
“I'm sorry mother, what’s wrong. Why are you all dressed up?” I asked her worried of the answer.
“We are going to dinner with the Grayson’s so that you can spend more time with your soon-to-be fiancé.” She said while placing her hands on her hips.
I sighed. “I’ll be down in twenty minutes.” I said while running up the stairs and putting on a simple red strapless dress with black heels. I put my hair in a messy bun while putting on plain black earrings.
It didn’t take long.
When I got down my father and mother were already waiting for me in the car.
I sighed when I got into the car and sat myself down as far away from my parents as I could. I didn’t really want to go to dinner, but I was excited to see Rebecca again.
