The non-ratata

Blue sighed as she walked down the cobblestone street. The lampposts flickered weakly above her. The green hedges on either side rustled noisily, probably filled with a large number of ratatas.

Even though it was nighttime, the evolver wasn't scared. She was no little pink princess that waited around for her prince charming. Blue was a pokedex holder. She was selected because she had the traits that prof. Oak seeked in young children. She was brave.

A chill breeze passed through the area, sending a wave of cold through her clothes. She shivered but not because of the chill. It shouldn't be at this temperature in July.

Being part of the pokedex holders had taught her valuable lessons፡ always be alert, never lower your guard and rely on your team.

The problem, the electric eyed girl didn't have a team right now.

To her left she heard a low growl.

Blue backed away from the bush warily, instinctively reaching for her pokeballs.

Then she remembered she had left them at the pkmn center earlier.

Blue heard a loud stomping noise coming from behind the shrubbery. That was no ratata. The non-ratata was quickly advancing toward her direction.

The evolver gulped nervously. A bead of sweat trickled down her forehead, sizzling as it hit the pavement.

Wait, sizzling?

Blue was suddenly aware of the raising temperature around her. She began to presperate wildly. Most of the sweat fell into her eyes, blurring her vision.

A loud growl came behind the tree's. A roar filled with hate, bloodthirst and evil. The air began to smell of rotten eggs and....... Was that other smell burned flesh!?

Blue forgot everything about being brave and ran.

Her high-heels clacked against the pavement. She began to breath heavily. The sweat ran down her face and soaked her dress. Her nostrils filled with the smell of decayed bodies.

The non-ratata (she'll call it that for now) jumped out of the shrubbery, cracking the cobblestone street. It gave forth a mighty roar and began to pursue Blue.

The former (and still) thief glanced behind her.

The monster was gaining. Its massive bulk blocked out any light. Flames flickered out of its back while its claws emitted a blood red glow. The weird thing was its eyes were mesmerizing. Beautiful even. They glowed a bright gold colour shining in the light of its claws. It reminded her of a certain playboy. Now that she thought about it, Gold's eyes were actually more breathtaking than the monster's, she wondered why she had never noticed it before.

Probably because of how annoying he was.

Blue shook her head vigorously. Now was no time for contemplating that thought.

She rounded a corner, touching one hand to the ground for a sharp turn. Then she began to sprint down the long street.

The non-ratata roared in frustration as it bashed the buildings, trying to squeeze onto the narrower street.

Blue peered over her shoulder and smirked. He wasn't getting onto this street soon!

The non-ratata screeched in triumph as it began making headway through the narrow gap.

The evolver's smile faded. Her lips formed a curse as she scolded herself for jinxing it.

The good thing was that the heat was subsiding along with the horrible smell.

Blue began to force her legs to move faster. If she could alert one of the other pkdex holders, they could fight the non-ratata with her!

She looked back behind her, the monster was almost onto the street. One arm stood free from the narrow gap. That arm thrashed around, desperate to grab anything.

"HEY!!" a voice cried out before she hit head first into the person. They both crashed into the ground.

Blue began to scream "GET OUT OF HERE! THERE'S A POWERFUL RAMPAGING POKEMON BEHIND ME! GET SOMEWHERE SAFE! THE POKEDEX HOLDERS WILL DEAL WITH I-"

"Mind you, I am a pokedex holder" the voice grunted.

The evolver blinked twice before she studied the figure attempting to stand up with their back facing her.

It was hard to see in the darkness of the night. She squinted.

Long-sleeved sweater? That eliminated Sapphire and Red. No hat? Buh-bye Ruby, Yellow, Crystal and Gold. And....boots? See ya Emerald. Short hair...... not Silver then......that left......

"Greenie!" Blue exclaimed.

"Of course it's me. What did you expect!?" Green growled. The trainer grumbled as he extended one hand to help Blue up.

Blue accepted it gratefully. "So what's the plan?" Blue mischievously smiled as she was pulled to her feet.

Green dropped her hand and gazed at the wreckage the monster had made while still attempting to get onto the street. "That, you don't need to know." Green calmly replied while avoiding her eyes.

Before Blue could even question his statement, Green was already dashing down the sidewalk. Dodging the falling, flaming wreckage, he made his way toward the non ratata.

"Green!" Blue angrily called. She chased after him, making sure to follow the exact placement of the viridian gym leader's feet. The evolver was smart, she knew that Green probably had a better instinct at this stuff then herself. While training Yellow, he had always practiced different tactics to dodge flaming obstacles.

Green was a master in this particular area of skill.

The trainer glanced back, only to see Blue pursuing him. She was gaining. Green growled over his shoulder "what are you doing!? You don't have your pokemon! You'll be killed!" He flipped over a flaming block of wood that had crashed in front of him.

Blue wiped her forehead as she sidestepped a large flaming pipe that landed at her feet. She then leaped over another obstacle with ease."you're underestimating me Greenie~ Pokemon or not, im helping! Nothing you say is going to change my mind so might as well stop arguing with me~!"

Green scowled as he skidded to a stop in front of a massive flaming boulder that had just fallen in his way. "Scizor, lets go!" A dark red steel type emerged from Green's pokeball. "Metalclaw!" Green ordered as he quickly moved his arm to the left in a swiping motion. Scizor followed his movements. In 3 seconds flat, the once massive boulder was reduced into granules of sand that littered the pavement; Slowly melting into pools of liquid glass.

Green glared over his shoulder. "If you're going to follow me,just don't die. From now on, I won't be able to clear the way for you." The trainer then dashed into a wall of smoke, disappearing from view.

Blue winced, at first, when Green had said that, she thought that he was just being a meanie as usual. Now she realized the trainer wasn't joking. There would be no way to follow his path with the dense smoke blocking her vision.

Blue ran head first into the swirling smoke anyway.

As soon as she was engulfed in the swirling tendrils, a massive boulder crashed in her path. The evolver barely avoided it. Blue wiped her forehead, this was going to be harder than she had originally thought.

An angry yell came from her left, followed by a massive roar. A blast of hot air scented with rotten eggs and burnt flesh nearly knocked the former thief off her feet.

"well" Blue muttered "I guess that's the right way." She ran toward the commotion.
