Emily's P.O.V

The car ride to school was quiet other than the faint music playing on the radio. Me and my sister were nervous about school and didn't want to go. we wanted our old life back.

It was raining today, I watched as the droplets of water raced each other down the window. It's often raining here, usually I'd be complaining but I've started to like rainy weather. Guess you could say I've adapted.

"Are you girls excited for your first day of school?"

No I wanna stay home, alone, in the dark, with my laptop.and ice-cream.

"Yeah grandma, super excited to meet everyone."

I don't like making her worry too much, she has enough going on with trying to pay the bills and looking after me and Abby, so I try to keep my problems to myself.

Soon the school came into view, it wasn't like the school I used to go to. I used to go to a private school, one of the most prestigious in the state, but now we were going to a public school, it looked so laid back and calm. I'd been used to wearing strict uniforms and being help up to extremely high standards, maybe this would be a peaceful change.

I stepped out of the car and grabbed my bag, my grandma said goodbye to us and wished us luck before driving back home in her old little cooper.

"C'mon Emily it'll be ok, just gotta stay positive,"

"Yeah, ok I'll try. Where are we supposed to go?"

" The front office, we'll have to ask someone where it is"

I watched as my sister confidently walked up to another student and asked where it was, I wish I was like her. She has so much confidence and strength, boys go crazy over her, and then there's me, I'm not the best looking and I'm really shy. Not usually the type guys swoon over.

After a brief conversation, she came back and we headed to the office. When we walked through the hall we got weird looks from everyone we passed. They were dressed very different to us and we definitely didn't fit in. I heard some people talk about us as we passed. My sister noticed how scared I looked and held me closer as we went into the office.

"Hi my name is Abby Blake and this is my younger sister Emily, we're new and we don't exactly know where to go or anything, could you please help us out?"

"Of course I can, it's very nice to meet you both."

As they continued talking I took a seat and looked around. It was a nice school I must admit but I just didn't feel the same you know? I watched as kids walked around and talked and looked so happy while I'm sitting here alone and upset. I want to go home. I want mum and dad back. I want my life back.

"Emily are you even listening to me?"

"Huh? oh right sorry what were you saying?"

"I said your first class today is English. Here's a timetable and a map so you don't get lost, good luck baby sister."

And with that she was gone, I checked my map and started to navigate my way to class. This school was like a labyrinth. Eventually I found it and sat down at the back of the room so no one would notice me. Soon everyone started filing in to the class room. I wasn't paying attention or looking up, just drawing random things in my book, when a hand slammed onto my desk loudly.
