Emily's P.O.V

I was currently in my bedroom reading one of my favourite books, Tomorrow when the war began. It was about a group of teenagers who go hiking and camp out near a river. When they return home, everyone is gone. From a distance they see fires and convoy trucks driving along the old country roads, and they soon discover that they have been invaded and are at war.

It was an amazing book, I've read it before with school last year and was now reading it again.

Iziah had left only 10 minutes before and I already couldn't stop thinking about how happy he made me. My thoughts were soon interrupted when my sister burst through my door.

"Did you take my curling iron Emily? I told you not to touch it." she rudely asked. I however had not even seen her curling iron for a week nor had I had curled my hair so I don't see why she thinks I had taken it. We got into another unnecessary argument before she stormed out angrily cursing at me as she left.

It hurt, knowing that someone who is supposed to protect you and teach you could hate you so deeply. She despised my very existence and I hadn't the slightest reason why.

Iziah's P.O.V *walking home from Emily's house*

Why the hell does Abby hate her so much? No, why does anyone hate her? she's so sweet and innocent, she cares about those all around her more than she cares for herself.

I was kicking a stone along the dirty grey pavement, thinking about Emily. I couldn't get her out of my mind no matter how hard I tried, not that I wanted to anyway. I started picturing her in my head. Her gorgeous green eyes that sparkle when she's happy and excited. The beautiful smile that graces her lips, with the power to light up a room. Her small frail body that had been hit far too many times.

She was very skinny, I sometimes wondered how often she actually ate a proper meal. Maybe tomorrow I'll take her somewhere after school, like a cafe. I know a very cute cafe not too far from my house. It's old fashioned and quaint but to me it is what I would describe as a perfect first date.

Wait, did I just say date? I mean, I really did like Emily but she might not like me back. I can't rush into things, no matter how much I like her.

I was about a block away from my house when I heard the sound of a stick cracking under someone's foot. I didn't take much notice as I was almost home anyway. But then I heard it again *SNAP* louder this time. I turned around but didn't see anyone there. I started walking a lot faster but then it started becoming faster and louder. *SNAP* *SNAP* *SNAP* I knew it wasn't my own footsteps, I had checked twice to assure myself I wasn't standing on twigs.

But then suddenly, it stopped. I stopped in my tracks and slowly turned around, almost expecting an axe murderer right behind me, like in the movies. But what I saw still slightly frightened me.

About 10 metres back a shadowy figure was standing under one of the maple trees staring in my direction. He started walking over to me but I stood my ground. i know it was a stupid decision not to run, but I was no coward.

Lucky for me I had stopped under a street light so as he approached I was able to make out who it was.

Justin.
