Madeline's POV

"Mom? Dad? Can I ask you something?" I say during dinner that night. My older brother is out with his girlfriend, and my little sister is at her friend's house.

"You just did," my dad jokes, causing me to roll my eyes. "Shoot."

"So, uh, you know 5 Seconds of Summer?"

"How could we not, Madeline? You went to their concert last night," my mother comments.

I glare at her a little, then continue, "Well, um, they kind of want me to go to LA next month and record with them."

My dad stops chewing his hamburger, and Mom freezes with her own halfway to her mouth.

"What?" they both ask.

"I kind of sang for them at the meet and greet before hand and they liked it and asked if I wanted to record a song or two with them in LA."

"When would you go?" my mother asks, placing her burger down in front of her.

"The tour is over the 11th, so probably then," I say simply, wondering if they'd pick up on what I'm implying.

Dad does first. "So, would you be there for your birthday?"

I nod. "Most likely. I know, it's kind of a stretch, but it's what I love, and the fact that I have this opportunity-"

"Madeline," my mother stops me short with her kind, gentle voice, "you can go. This is your dream. We don't want to get in the way of that."

"Really? Omg, Mom, thank you!" if stand up and hug her tightly.

"I don't get a hug, too?"

"Yes, Dad, you can have a hug."

I'm giddy for the rest of dinner, and as soon as I'm finished, I put my plate in the sink and rush over to the stairs.

"Where are you going?" Dad asks.

"I need to go text Luke, he's been wondering all day!"

"What? Who's Luke?"

"Luke Hemmings! I've kind of had an Instagram for six months and I DMed the 5SOS boys and I got Luke's number and yeah! I'll be back soon!"

I hurry up the stairs before either of my parents can reply.

So, yeah, that's the thing about me. I got an Instagram without my parents knowing. Oops. It payed off though, didn't it?

My mom is a bit...over-protective at times. She didn't let me have a phone until I was 15, and when I first asked if I could have an Instagram or something like it, she immediately rejected it because she was afraid people would find out where I live. She can't exactly do anything now, though.

I grab my phone and start texting Luke.

Guess what?

What?

They said no.

WHAT???

JK THEY SAID IT WAS FINE HAHA I JYST FREAKED U OUT SO BAD TAKE THAT LUKE HEMMINGS!!!

Shut up.

Make me!

Ur acting like a 2 year old.

Good, maybe I want to be a 2 year old.

Let me tell the boys, I'll be right back.

Kk.

I wait a minute, and then the phone rings.

"Hello?"

"SHE SAID YES?? ALRIGHT, THAT'S AWESOME!!"

The boys excitement blasts through the speaker, and I hear Luke snickering softly.

"You boys are so loud, calm down!" I exclaim after a couple minutes of cheering. They immediately fall silent.

Then, Michael yells, "Luke, tell us when you call her!"

Luke and I both burst into laughter at this point.

"So, I take it you're all excited about me coming?" I manage after about a minute of laughter.

"Yeah, we are!" Ashton says. "I would assume you're excited, too?"

"Are you serious right now, Ashton Irwin? Did you really just ask me that?"

I can almost see Ashton blushing on the other end.

"So, the plan is for you to drive or fly down on the 11th. And you're absolutely sure it's alright with your parents?" Luke asks.

"Absolutely. I can't wait, guys. I'll see you then, I've got to go. Bye!"

"Bye, Madeline!" the boys all call.

"I'll text you later," Luke adds before I hang up.
