A miracle

"Two slices of fresh toast nicely buttered," Wendy, Ayesha's adoptive mother oversweetly placed a plate in front of me the next morning. Ayesha had forced me to join them for breakfast and would not cease her institence of it. I grimaced at the food, remembering what happened the last time I had eaten something and the sickly feeling that remained for a time afterwards. "Loki don't start this again, we've been over this now you're like a human you need to eat to keep up your energy." I instantly shot her a harsh glare, I will never be like a human I yell in my mind, my anger clear on my face. "Hey I know you have bread in Asgard, I've seen it myself!" Ayesha was not going to persist and my stomach was calling out for something to drain it's hunger. "You're not going to give up are you?" I breathed with annoyance at Ayesha's attitude, she was almost as stubborn as I was! Almost.

"Got it in one Loki," Ayesha smirked but got disturbed by a rather strong cough that not only sparked my attention but Wendy's also. "Ayesha is everything alright?" I questioned, placing my hand gently on hers, her skin was incredibly warm, warmer than usual. Wendy had picked up on it too, "Honey you're burning up!" The young human pushed us both aside, grabbbing for a tissue on the table, "It's just a cold! Honestly there is nothing to worry about!" I could not help but wonder whether my actions were to blame, but it was the only liable theory, it made complete sense. Ayesha had lived so long with her powers that when I took them from her, it was like removing an important part of her that her body depended on to live. But there was nothing I could do, not like this, if I had my magic none of this would have ever occured. It was the worst punishment Odin could ever bestow upon me, Ayesha was weakening and I was forced to watch helpless to do anything about it. He never listens, nobody does, they persuade themselves I am no more than a villain, someone with no sense of morals or of what is right. And that is my point. There is not one soul in the whole of existance who knows the true me or understands me clearly... except for her, Ayesha. My only friend. I do not care if she doesn't mind not knowing I am going to solve who we are to each other no matter the consequences. I was not prepared to accept our connection being at the hand of chance. There must have been more than that.

"Now Loki if you want to help," Ayesha sneezed, "You would eat that for me."

I sighed, there was little point in refusing any longer, she would just remind of it the enitre day. Taking a bite, I knew it was not going to taste like the bread back in Asgard but it was far more repulsive than the food Ayesha had given me before. The bread on Asgard is succulent but this Midgardian creation was dry and lacking. "You're such a good boy," I heard Ayesha remark in a teaseful jest as I drank the vile tasting bread with the glass of plain water beside the plate. "I care for how speak."

The human just laughed at my words, "Oh do you know?" she retorted, I knew what she was attempting at doing, "Is the little prince offended?" she whispered close to me before stepping a few steps away from the table. Ayesha was not going to win this, I was aware she was just testing me to have me run after her, so who was I not to play along? "You had better start to run," I challenged, not turning round to face her. Her footsteps lightly ran from me as she giggled, leaving to hide away. Where she chose to hide herself was obvious, it only took me a few seconds at least to realise where she was. "You are going to have to try a lot harder than that I am afraid if you want to at least try and outsmart me, which believe me nobody can." A smirk was fixed to my face as the girl peered over from her hiding place, looking at me with wide eyes,"How did you find me?"

I folded my arms leaning against the bookcase she had hid herself behind rather pathetically, "Where else would you hide?" I remarked, amused by the human's antics, "Also, here is a little advice, next time you try to play this little game, make sure your feet aren't in plain sight." She had made an easy yet rather feeble mistake but laughed it off, "Okay okay point taken, now you hide and I'll try to find you!" I shrug with the smug still across my expression, "I cannot see how you will be able to but go ahead." When Ayesha began to count, I crept completely silently through the house, finding refuge from her in the library room, concealing myself behind a desk covered and surrounded by books. A short while after, I heard light foosteps enter, knowing exactly who it was. "Loki are you in here?" she called for me, of course I was not going to make a sound, she was going to have to find me herself. It came as a small surprise to me when she left the room. Perhaps she was satified that I was not in there, well I did tell her she would have a hard time locating my whereabouts. I raised myself from my crouching position and picked up the book I was reading the day before from the other side of the room and sat down on the chair, awating Ayesha's return.
