My life described in one simple word would probably have to be secretive.
Secrets.
Such a funny little word with such a big meaning.
Secrets.
It could be used to describe many different occasions. Cheating on a test. Thats a secret. Having an affair. Thats a secret. Plotting a murder. You guessed it, its a secret.
How about a girl posing as a boy. Secret. How about that same girl utterly confused about her feelings to the point of breakage. That could be a secret. How about trying to distinguish ones feelings for three different individuals. Thats definitely a scandalous secret.
Come to think of it, my life is much more than a secret. Its a big web of lies. I am a liar.
“Aaron? Dude wake up!”
I rolled off my bed, violently landing on the floor with a loud thud.
“Geez Adam, it’s only six!” I mumbled in a groggy voice, “Give me three more hours!”
Adam jiggled the knob, “Dude, I’m coming in!”
That was like a bone chilling douse of water to the face.
I quickly jumped up from my bed, rearranged the wig, and threw on a sweatshirt.
“Dude! Wait!”
My strangled voice had a slight edge of hysteria, “WAIT!”
Adam sauntered in, “Too late.”
I glared as he sat on my bed in just his boxers and leaned back.
“Thanks for knocking,” I muttered sourly.
“You’re welcome!” He shot back cheerfully. “So, you know what today is?”
I raised a brow, “Saturday. My day off my soccer and school.”
Adam let out a low hoot of laughter, “Alright smart ass! It’s Derek’s birthday!”
I gaped, “Seriously?”
Adam nodded earnestly, “Actually it was two days ago but we all forgot so I feel like shit. So Savannah, Riley, and I planned a surprise belated birthday party.”
My jaw dropped to the ground.
“What?!”
Adam grinned, “Yeah, sorry we didn’t tell you earlier but we were afraid you’d slip up. He doesn’t like talking about his birthday and we all agreed you’d probably accidentally bring it up.”
I glowered, “Thanks. Some friends.”
Adam began to launch into a story about how he envisioned the party was gonna go tonight while I blanked and stared off into space.
