WHEN THEY ARRIVED at the school,Melanie was sat down outside the principals office whilst Joyce was sat inside talking to him. She bit her nails anxiously, wondering all the things he was saying to her mother in that moment. A suspension was the last thing she needed right now."Melanie." She sat up instantly at the call of her name, her principal standing in front of his door. "Can you step into my office please?"
With one deep breath, she pushed herself off from her chair and briskly walked into the office. Joyce kept her eyes on her daughter as she sat down,Melanie could tell she was definitely in some trouble.
She sat down in the chair beside her mother and crossed her legs before speaking. "Thank you for allowing me back in."
"Like I was just saying to your mother,Melanie you're a good kid. You're smart and hardworking but the problem seems to be your behaviour." He began.
Melanie slouched down into her seat as she murmured. "My behaviour isn't the problem sir,the people at this school are my problem—"
Joyce cut her off. "This is exactly what he's talking about. You don't even see how you act? This is a teacher Melanie, talk to him with some respect."
"Whatever. I should've known you would take his side." She tutted slightly, shrugging her shoulders.
The principal leaned forward on his desk, staring at the girl deep in her eyes. "I am worried about you, your grades are slipping and your attendance isn't exactly the best. You've missed out on the majority of this semester and if you continue, you won't be able to finish high school with the outcome that you want."
"I thought we were called here to talk about the confrontation that happened, not my track record." Melanie rocked back and forth in her chair, she was clearly bored and ready to go home.
"You were called here to talk about you as a student and a teenager. A lot of your teachers are worried about you, you're falling into the wrong crowd... messing around with some bad influences."
She raised an eyebrow at him, sitting straight up in her seat. "Bad influences like??"
"Billy Hargrove. Your boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?!" Joyce scrunched up her eyebrows in confusion as she glanced at her daughter. "You have a boyfriend?"
"He's not my boyfriend, okay? We just borrow class notes off each other. Now can we please speed this meeting up?"
The principal exhaled softly, stroking his beard slightly. "You can continue attending Hawkins high. However, you'll be assigned someone to monitor your attendance at school and in lessons. You have to ensure that you'll work hard to achieve your grades."
Melanie shrugged her shoulders. "Sure, okay. Whatever, that's fine by me. Is that all?"
"Yes." They all got up onto their feet,Joyce shook hands with him and shot a glare at Melanie's direction.
Melanie spun around and headed for the door until Joyce pulled her back by the arm. "What?" She whisper yelled.
"Melanie has something she would like to say to you." Joyce raised an eyebrow at her, motioning her to talk.
