AS SOON AS she got home,Melanie went straight to her room to get ready for her date with Billy. She had about half a hour to get ready and hadn't even taken a shower yet. Melanie Byers' duration to get ready was about one and a half to two hours so Billy was going to be waiting an awfully long time. Or so she thought. To her surprise, she had gotten ready earlier than expected.

Just as she was about to leave her room, she swung the door open and came face to face with Steve. He looked upset and Melanie didn't want to know why.

"Steve... what are you doing here? A-And who let you in?" She still held onto her doorknob as she stared at the confused teen.

He scratched the back of his head and leaned his arm on her door. "Uh your mom let me in. I just needed someone to talk to but if you have somewhere to be then—"

"No,no. It's fine... uh,come in." She stepped aside for him to enter and closed the door behind him. She stood near the door with her hands behind her back whilst Steve sat on her bed. "What's wrong?"

Steve fiddled with his fingers as he nervously looked at Melanie. "Nancy and I aren't together anymore and I... I don't know what to do Mel,without Nancy I don't know what to do."

"Steve,I'm so sorry but I-I don't know what you want me to do here. Nancy isn't even talking to me,if I could—"

The door unexpectedly opened and Joyce was standing in the doorway. "I hope I didn't intrude on anything... there's a young man waiting outside for you Mel. Who is he?"

"Billy." She said to herself and slipped on her fur jacket, she took one good look at herself before averting her eyes to Steve. "Steve. Can we talk later?"

"Yeah, yeah sure. It's fine." He lifted himself up from the bed and walked over to her door. "You look beautiful by the way."

Melanie smiled warmly at him. "Thank you."

Steve had left her bedroom and Melanie was leaving right behind him. But was blocked by Joyce's arm across the door.

"Where do you think you're going?"

Melanie stammered slightly. "Uh... Billy and I are just going to get something to eat and then I'll be back home."

"Is this the same boy your principal was talking about?" She questioned, raising an eyebrow at Melanie. "The bad influence?"

She denied. Joyce still had her arm blocking the door and Melanie was getting impatient. "No. This is a different Billy... Nancy's friend."

"I'm not dumb,Melanie. You're not leaving this house." Joyce finally walked away towards the front door, she pulled the door open and there was Billy, leaning against the hinges. Melanie chased after her, pleading for her to go.

Billy tossed the cigarette aside and put on his flashiest smile. "Good afternoon,Mrs Byers—"

"Listen here,Billy. My daughter is a straight A student, she's a good girl and she doesn't need 'bad influences' like you in her life. So you can run along now and don't contact her again. Do you understand?"

He laughed as he placed his hands on his hips. "With all due respect Mrs Byers,Melanie is a matured young lady, you don't have a say in who she can and can't see. Don't ruin her fun 'cause you're not getting any action anymore."

"Excuse me?!" Joyce stepped forward towards Billy but was pulled back by Melanie who stood timidly behind her.

"I'm her mother,I pushed her out of my vagina and she's living under my roof! Therefore, I do have a right to dictate who she can and can't see. And she certainly won't be seeing you so you can either walk out of here or I can drag you out by that hideous mullet you're wearing on your head. Your choice."
