ANOTHER PAIR OF jeans was dashed onto the floor by Melanie and she was becoming frustrated by the minute. She sloppily put on an oversized T-shirt along with her dungarees whilst Tina was sat at her vanity, getting ready for the evening. The two girls had spent all afternoon after school in Tina's bedroom, gossiping and watching movies. This was exactly what Melanie needed with all the chaos happening around her.

Melanie packed a bag the day before and spent the night at Tina's house, she didn't want to be alone at her house nor did she want to be at the hospital.

"I give up!" Melanie flopped on the bed hopelessly, taking deep breaths as she closed her eyes. "Nothing fits me anymore, I can't believe you let me wear those hideous dungarees."

Tina turned around to face her, gently applying her makeup on her cheeks. "Me either, you looked like one of those nerds. You at least should have put some makeup on to look a little better."

"Gee thanks. You're supposed to be comforting me Tina, not insulting me." Melanie rolled over onto her back, staring up at the ceiling.

She shrugged slightly, walking over to her closet. "Melanie it's my job as your friend to always be honest with you. You're lucky I didn't even bring up the fact that you're becoming a little temperamental. I think Billy's attitude is rubbing off on you."

"Please don't compare me to Billy... ever, he's an animal!"

Tina chuckled quietly, running her fingers along the hangers in her closet. "Yeah I bet he is." She pulled out two pairs of pants and placed them carefully on her bed. "But you love that about him, every girl does, so stop making your face like that!"

"Stop making my face like what?!"

Tina turned back around, "You do this face when you're in denial about something." She furrowed her brows and pouted her lips, demonstrating to Melanie. "Like this."

"That's not true." Melanie sunk back into the cushions and pillows behind her, rolling onto her side. "And when I said Billy is an animal, I'm not talking about during sex. I'm talking about in general, he's not my kind of guy."

Tina explained, climbing onto her bed; she laid down opposite Melanie. "Mel he is literally the perfect guy for you. You've got the hottest guy in Hawkins, do you know how many girls wish they could take your place? Consider yourself lucky and stop complaining."

"I'm serious T." She sighed, glancing at her friend. "Yesterday he showed me a completely different side to him. I knew he was mean but I never knew he could be so violent."

"Did he hurt you? Because some guys do that to make the sex exciting and it really gets things steamy in the bedroom."

Melanie sat up on the bed, shuffling closer to Tina as she spoke. "No, I mean, I don't know anything about Billy and he hasn't made an effort to get to know me either. Things were so much different with—"

"Steve?" She snorted after finishing Melanie's sentence. Melanie stared at her in confusion, she was missing the joke. "Oh come on! Steve is not even on Billy's level. Wake up Melanie! 'King Steve' is out of date and we're throwing him away."

Melanie climbed off her bed, grabbing her handbag from the side table. "I'm leaving. I'm not gonna sit here and listen to you talk shit about Steve."
