I should've gone over to her house before school started. I should've been there to protect her. I didn't know who to call; if I should call Mr Stark, if I should call Aunt May, should I call the police? What should I do? But I guess I know why they call it the waiting room. You wait, and wait, and wait, and wait. You wait to see if someone lived. You wait to see if someone died. You just wait. You wait to hear some sort of news and fast. Never really knowing what will happen. Little by little, everyone left. Only a few people remained well after dark. That's when my phone rang. It was Aunt May. I answered it and brought it up to my ear.
"Hey." I said, trying to hold back my tears.
"Peter? What's wrong? Where've you been? What happened? Where are you?"
"Um I'm- I'm at the hospital."
"What?! What the hell happened?"
"It's Libby... she... I don't even know. I went to her apartment and she was on the floor. She was nearly dead." I broke down again.
"Oh, Peter! I'm on my way. You can tell me everything there."
"Okay." I hung up and my phone rang again. It was Mr Stark. I was still crying. And there was no way the tears were stopping anytime soon. I answered it.
"Kid, where are you? Your Aunt called me saying you haven't talked to her all day?"
"I'm at the hospital."
"What-why are you-are you crying? Kid what happened?"
"It wasn't me. I swear to god that it wasn't me. I went into her apartment and she was on the floor."
"Okay, calm down. Where are you?"
"The hospital just north of my apartment."
"Give me five minutes and I'll be there."
I hung up and I put my phone under my leg. I buried my head in my hands and sobbed quietly. There was no way she was in this situation right now. A few minutes later, someone touched my knee. I looked up and saw it was Aunt May. I wrapped my arms around her neck and continued to cry as she rubbed my back comfortingly. The bench sank a few minutes later. I looked to see Mr Stark. I cried and cried for what seemed like forever when I finally stopped. I just sat there in Aunt May's arms.
"Peter what happened?" May asked once I had calmed down.
"I walked to her apartment to see why she didn't go to school today. When I knocked the door it opened and I walked in and saw her on the floor. She was a few inches away from a broken glass table and she had a knife in her chest. I saw someone going out of the window but I don't know who it was." I said softly.
"Who is this girl?" Mr Stark asked.
"Her name's Libby Grays." I looked over to see what he was doing. He was searching something on his phone. He flicked it and all these files came out.
"Who's her dad?"
"I-I don't know. Someone who cleans after alien attacks I think."
"I know all of them and none of them have a daughter named Libby."
"That's what she said her dad does." He flicked through files.
"Libby Grays?" I shot up. There was a doctor standing there. I got up and went over to him. "My name is Dr Stephan Strange. I was one of the doctors who helped her through her surgery."
"What-what's her status now?"
"She had a few difficulties, but she's just resting."
"Is she in a coma?"
"No. In fact, you helped her."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, the knife in her chest did cause a lot of harm, but it did stop her from bleeding to death. So, if you had removed it, then something bad would've happened. She maybe would be in a coma. But thanks to you, she's just resting."
"Thanks doc. Um, when can she come home?"
"Well, we would like to keep her for a few weeks, you know, to make sure there isn't anything wrong with her, and to make sure nothing bad happens to her. But only time will tell. She's in room 380."
"Thank you."
"I'll also be her daily nurse to stay up with her."
"Okay."
He walked back where he came from. Aunt May and Tony came up.
"Well, what's the news?" May asked.
"She's alive."
I walked to her room and Tony and May followed me close behind. I finally found her room and the door was slightly open, so I slowly walked in.
