Chapter 8 - Meeting new problems
"Stop," I grumbled. A hand was on my shoulder drawing little circles all up my arm sending tingles throughout me. My first reaction was to push the thing away, so I did, and it must have caught Cody off guard because I heard a thump and then he groaned. "Sorry," I say sitting up quickly and leaning over the side of the bed to see Cody laying back on the ground with his hands behind his head. My eyes travel down his body lingering on his amazing abs and then back to his face. My cheeks heat at the smirk across his face and I quickly hide under all the blankets.
"You know we have to do stuff today," Cody says trying to unravel all the blankets from around me. His hands kept trying to find ways into my small cove in the centre of them.
"Hmmm, like what?" I say sticking my head out the side of them just as Cody grabs the edge of a blanket and pulls it quickly and sends me tumbling onto the floor. I scowl up at him and he just laughs. I probably deserved that.
Cody heads into the closet and I almost sigh in relief. His stunning body was making me dizzy. I pad across the floor to the bathroom. My hair is a blonde heap of fuzz and my blue eyes are bright and excited.
After brushing out my long golden locks I hear Cody leave the room, so I wander into the closet. It's raining outside so I put on a figure hugging long sleeved shirt and black skinny jeans before chucking one of Cody's large oversized jumpers on. I breathe in his wonderous scent for awhile before realising what I was doing, and I felt the red return to my cheeks.
"Cody?" I ask as I step out of the room. No reply comes so I just drift towards the kitchen. Curse my stomach I swear it's always demanding food.
Cody isn't in the kitchen either, so I just sit down on one of the stools and munch on a pop tart. I only eat half of it before my curiosity gets the better of me. Where is Cody?
I explore the house for a while but after a couple of minutes, I notice I have no idea where I am. I sit down with my back against the wall trying to remember where I came from, but this house is still confusing. Other than going between the kitchen and my room I have no idea where anything else is.
"Rose?" I hear Cody call out and I see his head pop around the corner. His brows furrow in confusion as he looks at me slumped against the wall, but I just jump upwards.
"I got lost," I explain, and colour stains my cheeks again. Cody just picks me up and walks through a door to our left.
"Stay here I'll be right back," Cody says putting me down in a comfy chair. I immediately spin around to survey the room. Cody leaves behind me and I look out the window. It's still raining.
Cody doesn't return for ages and I'm bored of spinning around constantly in the chair. At first, it was fun to see how fast I could go but after tipping it over a couple of times I'm bored. I get up and leave the room. I don't care if Cody told me to stay he's not my mother.
I manage to hunt down the kitchen and just as I walk in I hear the front door open. I quickly dunk under the table and then I see Oli enter the room.
"Sorry thought it was going to be some random person," I say getting out from my hiding spot and Oli just laughs.
"I'm here on babysitting duty and I thought you were supposed to be in the office," Oli says as he sits down on the couch and turns the TV on.
"I was but I got bored and where's Cody?" I ask as I open the cupboard and find packets of popcorn. "Popcorn?" I ask Oli and he nods before turning back to the TV
"He's got some packing stuff to deal with," Oli says giving me no further explanation. There's something he's hiding.
"Like?" I press, and Oli just gives me a look that tells me to leave it be. I drop it and continue with the popcorn.
I sit down beside Oli and he flicks through the list of movies. "Any favourites?" Oli asks, and I shake my head
"Never watched any movies," I say, and Oli looks at me and then understanding flickers through his eyes. Right my sad childhood.
We're hallway through the movie munching on popcorn when a headache comes on.
"Rose what's wrong?" Oli asks noticing my pain, but I just collapse on the ground as a wave of excruciating pain washes through me. I was trying to fix my brain when I remembered something, my Luna senses. This is what it felt like last time.
"Follow..." I trailed off and just ran out the front door. I was running so fast and I have no idea where I was going. I couldn't tell if Oli was behind me, but I kept going.
I enter a clearing just in time to see two wolves jump at each other and start biting at each other's necks.
"Stop." I hear somebody command from the other side of the clearing. The wolves back away from each other and I see Cody on the other side of the clearing. His eyes are dark again and as they meet mine I shudder away from the heavy weight of his glare.
Cody storms across the clearing to me and I see the wolves, who have now shifted back, follow after Noah.
I keep watching Noah and then suddenly two hands are on my face. My eyes meet Cody's dark ones for a split second before he buries his head in my neck and just breathes in my scent.
I stand there for awhile before Cody lifts his head enough to look down at me. "How... How did you beat me here?" He breaths and his eyes return to their normal colour.
"Because she ran so fast I couldn't even keep up with her," Oli says breaking through the tree line behind us. I had always been a fast runner but maybe I underestimated how fast. Cody just looks back to me before walking over to Oli.
"Take her home." I hear him growl to Oli and then he starts to walk away.
"No," I say before I can stop myself and Cody just turns around with predatory calmness. I almost run when I notice the anger in his eyes. "If I'm going to be the Luna of this pack I'm not being sidelined," I say cutting Cody off with a glare and his snarl rips through the clearing. He knows I'll just follow him if he sends me home.
"Do you have to be so stubborn." Cody grumbles and Oli rushes off somewhere. Cody walks back to me and as he does I take a cautious step back. Hurt flickers through Cody's eyes. "Are you afraid of me?" He asks
"No, it's just your eyes I can tell when you're angry," I say as he reaches me, but he just picks me up and keeps walking.
"Sorry-" He starts
"No don't be." I cut him off and snuggle closer to the warmth of his body. It's still raining.
We walk in comfortable silence for a while before Cody looks down at me. "Are you okay going back down into the jail cells?" He asks, and I just nod quietly.
He carries me the whole way down to where Noah is who gives Cody a questioning look but then smiles. A wicked smile. Maybe Noah isn't as gentle as I suspected. That smile may be proof.
"Rose?" I hear someone ask and I spin around to see a man in chains with bruises all over his face and bleeding cuts. I look to Cody, but he looks as clueless as I am.
"Sorry, I'm not sure I know you," I say taking a closer look at the man. A cruel smile crosses his face and his eyes go to Cody behind me. The man lets out a chuckle and in his eyes, there is only anger and evil. I shrink away from him.
"I'm going to be your husband. You will be my wife and bear my pups just as I've been promised since the day you were born." Cody's inhuman snarl rips through the whole place and in a second, I'm whisked into someone's arms and I'm outside of the jail.
The someone is Oli and as he sets me down I know that whoever that man was he's long gone. I shiver, I can still feel his horrible gaze looking me over.
Oli takes me home and I collapse onto the couch. Who was that guy?
