CH 17 - I win

Chapter 17 – I win

"Luna." A male wolf smiled at me kindly as I walked in the supermarket. Cody had left to go find Oli and Noah who I have yet to reunite with, apparently, they've been away on a trip and got back today.

I had been bored at home and after going in search of food and finding that Cody had been living off the basics and mostly coffee I decided to buy some proper food.

I got nice smiled the whole time I shopped but I could only return them with tight-lipped smiles.

"Luna!" A bubbly shout came from behind me and I turned around to see an eight-year-old racing towards me. It took a second for me to recognize her but I swept her up in my arms and she giggled.

"Lucy," I whispered onto the top of her head. She was so much older now, I felt like it was only yesterday I was talking to a little six-year-old with a cute temper.

"I missed you." She says with a grin and throws her arms around my neck again, I laugh again as a nice woman gives me a smile and brushes a hand down Lucy's hair.

"I had a little vacation but I'm back now," I whisper before putting her back on the floor, the lady pats her back kindly and Lucy rushes off to the candy aisle, I laugh as I watch her.

"Thank you for being so kind to her Luna." The lady says sweetly and I manage a proper smile for her which he returns.

"It's nothing really," I say trying to be humble while getting overwhelmed with how kind everyone is being to me.

I manage to escape the supermarket without any one else recognizing me or having anymore long awkward conversations

I let out a large sigh when I finally shut the door, I put all the bags down on the bench. A few wolves insisted on helping me carry the bags but I politely declined with a smile.

As I unpack and hum along to a tune that was playing in the store. I made a mental note of the name so I could find it later and play it again.

I was nearly finished when the door flew open and I was squeezed into the tightest hug. I knew who it was immediately and I laughed and threw my arms around Oli.

He put me back on my feet after a moment and grinned at me before I was suddenly picked up and spun around.

I let out a surprised shout but giggled at Noah. "I missed you guys so much," I say with a grin as Cody saunters into the kitchen.

"Mine." He says playfully with a hint of possessiveness before pulling me towards him and I swat his hands away but lean into him still.

"Where have you guys been," I ask pointing between Noah and Oli before placing my hands on my hips. "I've been back for over a month and you only show up now," I say with a playful tone.

"We had to help integrate some packs in Europe into our pack." Oli answers and I turn to Cody with a raised brow.

"You weren't kidding when you said you took over many packs," I say with a hint of surprise but also awe, I thought he just took over all the ones in America, which is massive but Europe and who knows where else is massive.

"I even have some in Australia darling." He purrs and I roll my eyes at him before muttering show off. Oli fails to hide a chuckle and Noah just grins.

"Oh, now you're back I wanted to ask you if I can retrain," I say, I still had a good amount of muscle because in the cell there was a bar hanging from the roof that I could use as a bar for pull-ups but my stamina has decreased and I haven't fought someone in a long time.

"Sure we can go now if you want," Cody says wrapping an arm around my waist and leading me outside. Oli and Noah follow but then split off from us as we head towards the training grounds.

Cody gets in a fighting stance and I take a second to try and point out any obvious weaknesses but come up empty handed, great.

"Do you want to go straight into fighting?" Cody asks as if he's suddenly remembering that I might have forgotten a lot over the past three years.

"I think you'll be surprised with how strong I am, as for fighting I'll need a few practices." I give him a grateful smile but beckon with a finger for him to start and a wicked grin crosses his face.

He swings high and I duck easily, being small is an advantage but it's been a while since I've needed quick reactions. I lose balance as I move and Cody's arm comes up beneath me to steady me. I curse under my breath and Cody lets out a chuckle.

We do the same for hours until I know he's not holding back anymore, he pins me easily most of the time because I make little mistakes but slowly I'm regaining my swiftness.

"You'll lose sooner or later," I say breathlessly as I duck under another punch and try to kick Cody's legs out beneath him. The action caused my side to be open and his arm came around me. In a normal fight, I would be thrown to the ground but Cody makes sure to do it gently before pinning me down on the mat.

I curse again and try to wiggle free but he doesn't let me move anywhere. I scowl at him and poke my tongue out when he laughs at me.

"Again," I say and he lets me shove him off me, I was determined to win. He shakes his head at me with another chuckle.

I make sure not to leave my side unblocked this time and after a failed attempt at trying again, I manage to keep my balance which throws him off.

"I win, loser," I shout in victory when I'm straddling him and have him pinned to the mat. If I wasn't so happy about winning I would be severely blushing from our position.

"Well done." He says sarcastically but still grins at me before flipping us over so I'm yet again pinned beneath him.

He holds me there, our eyes are locked, green looking into blue. My heart is racing, the euphoria of winning being pushed aside by the sudden realization of how close we are.

I freeze as he leans down closer. Our lips are so close and my heart feels like it's going to fly out of my chest. He seems to hesitate as if he's unsure but I lean up so I can brush mine against his lightly.

A growl escapes his throat as I pull away and his lips are pressing against mine seconds later. I couldn't help but smile into the kiss. I would imagine all the time in the cells what it would be like to do it again but this surpassed everything I had imagined.

Cody was slowly healing me, piece by piece, and he was giving me the courage to face my own fears. My parents were still out there and so was my brother but right now I wasn't worried about any of that.

I'm pretty sure stairs hate me, like literally, in one day I fell down two flights and then tripped up, yes I fell up the stairs. So yeah that's me haha...
