Chapter 3 - Something in the making

I awoke to a snarl. I sat up so fast I nearly hit whoever was sitting in front of me. My thoughts pounded through my head and I squeezed my eyes shut trying to calm them down.

"Are you okay?" Cody asked. Ugh, Cody was here. His hand touched my arm and tingles washed through me. I opened my eyes to see him staring intently down at me. I almost smiled but I remembered my place and groaned before lying back down.

"What now?" I grumbled into my pillow and more tingles shook my body as Cody's hand began to draw slow circles all over my back. On instinct, I felt relieved and relaxed. Stupid mate bond.

"I found you asleep on the ground outside the cells," Cody said his hands still drawing patters over my back. I sat up pushing his hand away and stared at him coldly. Does he not realize that i can feel him when he kisses another girl. His green eyes stared back at me and I was nearly lost in them. Hailey my wolf was howling with delight as Cody's hand started drawing the patterns on my arm. I watched his finger travel along my skin I nearly sighed intently.

"You seemed preoccupied with other ladies," I muttered so quietly it was barely audible. I wasn't sure I wanted to hear what happened. " I didn't want to come to find you..." I trailed off looking back up at him. His eyes were full of guilt.

"I'm so sorry about that please let me explain," Cody said. I wasn't really sure how much there was to explain, he was kissing someone else and that was that. I nodded anyway and he took a deep breath before continuing. "Karina is my old girlfriend, we've had been dating since I turned 19, I thought I was never going to find my mate so I turned to her but it never felt quite right. We were like a normal couple until I turned 21 a couple of weeks ago and she wanted to go further in our relationship, I didn't.

Then I met you and everything I felt for her was wiped away. It scared me so much that I talked before I thought and I watched them throw you into that cell. It hurt me so much and then when you slipped into the Heat I was in so much pain for you that I forgot about Karina. Later Karina came over and I was trying to tell her that I had a mate and we needed to break up but she forced herself on me and kissed me. She knew you would feel it but I forced her off and told her to leave and then I came running to find you but... That's when I found you asleep." He finished looking down. I could see how hurt he was.

He expected me to not believe him. He never thought he would find his mate but then I came along and sent all this hate and rage at him. I turned his face towards mine and smiled weakly at him. Why was I smiling at him? Rose! You have to think clearly. I told myself sternly.

"I - I'm not..." I trailed off, I wasn't sure. He was the reason my life had turned to hell. He was also told to be some heartless Alpha of the biggest pack of all time. What if this was all a joke? I'm too tired for all this. I saw the hurt in Cody's eyes as he looked away and my heart beat sped up. "No. I don't mean it like that it's just so-" I started

"Confusing? Overwhelming?" Cody finished and I nodded. At least he wasn't forcing me to do anything. "Come on let's go get some food." He got off the bed and offered me his hand. I threw him a smirk and got out of bed on my own.

"I have perfectly fine legs you know, I don't need help," I said, still smirking. I wasn't going to be this easy. I almost snorted at the thought of me being babied by him. That was not me and he was about to find out.

"Oh, I noticed." He said throwing me a wink and a smirk of his own and my cheeks heated as I looked down and realized I was only in my underwear and an over sized shirt. He laughed as he noticed my reaction and I snarled.

"Out. Let me change." I said pointing to the door as I noticed my denim shorts were hung over the back of the desk chair. That's when I actually looked around the room. Clothes strewn everywhere, Cody's clothes from the looks of it. The messy bed behind me.

I threw on my shorts are stalked out the door to find Cody leaning against the wall in the hallway. "I slept in the same bed as you?" I growled, there was no way I was doing that again tonight.

"Chill, I slept far over the side and were mates-" He was laughing as he took in my flushed cheeks, wide eyes and scowl. I cut him off with a growl. Before I could start yelling at him a head popped around the corner. It belonged to a little girl, she looked to be about three or four.

"Coco!" She yelled running to Cody. I assumed Coco was his nickname. I almost snorted at the though of him being called that. It seemed so childish. Cody swept the girl up into his arms and she giggled as he tickled her.

"What? You can be Roro." Cody said throwing me a smirk and put the girl down who looked up at me and shrunk behind Cody's legs, she looked like she was five maybe. "It okay Sammie. This is Rose she won't hurt you unless you annoy-" I cut him off by punching him in the arm. He rubbed his arm and faked being hurt before whisking Sammie up into his arms again and racing her down the hallway. I rushed after them. I was going to make him pay for this it was too early for me to be running.

I followed my nose to where the delicious smell of food was coming from. Inside sat Cody and Sam sitting at the table playing some sort of game with their fingers. At the stove stood a girl who looks thirteen maybe fourteen. She was flipping pancakes and I had to admit they smelt amazing.

"Hi!" The girl said cheerily as she noticed me. Cody looked up with a smile but then Sam screeched at him that he needed to pay attention and he looks back down laughing. "I'm Chloe, you've already met Samantha my younger sister and Cody our older brother. Cody's looking after us while our parents are away. You're really pretty by the way." She said smiling before returning to her pancake flipping. I heard Cody snort and I threw him a glare which he delightfully returned. It was going to be one of these days then. Perfect, I knew every possible way I could piss Cody off and I was going to use them.

We ate breakfast and then Cody told the girls that he was going to show me around.

"What happens if I don't want to be showed around?" I said sweetly. This was only the start of how annoying I could be.

"Too bad." He said smirking at me. I needed to step up my game, he wasn't winning this.

We stepped outside and it was the first time I really took in my surroundings. Wolves, both human and wolf form, were everywhere. Trees lined the edge of the giant clearing. Cody's house was to one side, it was by far the biggest.

As we walked Cody pointed out where the Beta and Gamma lived and told me I could meet them later.

"How big is your pack," I questioned sticking close to Cody as we manoeuvred our way through the forest. I could see a clearing up ahead but nothing else.

"Three thousand round about." My jaw dropped as he said that incredibly huge number. I looked over to him as we took the final steps out of the forest. He seemed tense. On instinct, I reached to hold his hand. He smirked at me but said nothing. God, I needed to get my thoughts straight. I was so preoccupied with my thoughts that i didn't notice we had left the forest. I looked away from him and gasped at what I saw.
