Dating Cat Grant wasn't something that was easy. Despite the fact that you were THE Perry White's niece, she was still THE Cat Grant. There was quite an age gap, which neither of you minded, but she had quite a bit of experience on you. Not to mention the fact that she was probably one of the most powerful people in the world and built it all up from scratch. Suffice to say, she wasn't easily impressed.

Which was where all your relationship stress came from. Sure the two of you loved each other and absolutely loved spending time together, but when it came to talking about things, it was difficult. First off, sometimes it was like you spoke different languages. There was the fact that you weren't much older than her son Adam and then there was the general way of speaking you'd both learned. Cat was much more sophisticated when it came to, well, everything, not having grown up in the slums of Metropolis.

If speaking wasn't your issue, it was no matter what you did, it wouldn't matter. She always did something better that day. Whether it was a phone call with Oprah or lunch with Olivia Marsdin, it always seemed much more important than what you did. You figured early on that impressing her wasn't going to be easy if it was even possible, but you thought maybe, just maybe, you could get one day to be the one who did the cool thing.

"Y/n, you're home late." Cat said once you'd set your skateboard against the wall. "Make sure you put that up before breakfast tomorrow, Lena and Kara will be coming over for breakfast."

"Alright." You said, picking it up again and tossing it into a closet. "Is there dinner?"

"I wasn't sure what you'd want, so I didn't make anything. I can order us something though." Cat said and you shrugged. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine, tired and I've got a lot on my mind." You said and she sat down on the couch with a glass of wine.

"Talk to me, it seems you never do that." Cat said and you shrugged it off. "Seriously, I tell you all about my day, but when I ask you, you just shrug it off."

"Because I don't really do much Cat. Like today, I worked a morning shift, had some eggs, skated around and took pictures, and then came back and worked the dinner rush." You said and Cat smiled. "I don't do a whole lot and if I do, it's not nearly as impressive as what you do. I don't want to leave you unimpressed."

"I don't expect you to be out fighting dragons or anything." Cat said with a chuckle. "You're doing great, let me see your pictures."

"Alright." You said, opening the laptop on the table and plugging in your camera. You pulled them up and she looked through them while you went into the kitchen and began cooking. "Do you want a burger?"

"No thank you dear." Cat said and you came back with yours on a plate and sat down on the floor between her legs as she finished looking at all the pictures. "Tomorrow I think Lena should see these, I'm sure she could use a new photographer."

"I don't want you pulling strings for me because you feel bad that I'm an underachiever." You said and she shook her head, leaning down to kiss you.

"If you get a job, it's because you're impressive, not because I'm pulling strings." Cat said and you smiled at her.
